Fortnite is one of the most popular live-service multiplayer games in the industry, going on five years of success with no sign of slowing down. Due to its popularity, Fortnite has also maintained a successful competitive scene that relies on player stats. The term “KD” is used frequently, leaving many players curious about what it means in Fortnite.

KD is an acronym for the Kill Death Ratio players have during any match. It’s also representative of the formula that you use to get your KD ratio, where you divide the kills by the deaths to get the average of how many kills you get per game. This is a way to rank players against each other, with higher averages usually indicating better skill at the game.

For example, let’s say that someone played a series of five matches of Fortnite and got the following amount of kills, but lost every time.

• Game One – 2 eliminations
• Game Two – 4 eliminations
• Game Three – 3 eliminations
• Game Four – 1 elimination
• Game Five – 6 eliminations

You add all these numbers together to get 16 eliminations and since you lost every match, you would have five deaths for this set. You divide the number of kills or eliminations by the number of times you died, so 16/5, and you’d find out that you have a KD ratio of 3.2 during those five games.

To calculate your entire career KD ratio, you’ll need to go to the career tab on Fortnite‘s main menu and then click Profile at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see the number of matches you’ve completed and how many eliminations you’ve gotten. Use the same formula as above, but substitute matches for deaths.
