I know I'm personally getting old because whenever I see someone half-heartedly pull off some whack TikTok dance with a vacant expression on their face, I want to throw my phone across the room. Yes, I know I sound like some curmudgeon, especially because all I want to do is watch No Country for Old Men at that point and nod at everything Tommy Lee Jones says.

It also doesn't help that certain slang text terms, like "Ong," are being tossed around on Snapchat and IG, either.

What does "Ong" on Snapchat mean?

"Ong" is shorthand for "On God," which can mean a couple of things. It most typically means "I swear to God," or to emphasize that someone's telling the truth. It could also mean "that's on God," like it's out of someone's control, but it most typically means that someone is really, really, really speaking honestly about a particular subject.

So if you're messaging folks on Snapchat and they send you a photo and they say, "Ong I didn't screenshot that photo you just sent me" even though Snapchat is telling you that they most certainly did, then you know just where they stand when it comes to swearing on the supposed creator of everything we have come to know and experience in our crazy human existences.

Ong is also being utilized a lot on TikTok as well. Various posts on the platform, along with hashtags in text, utilize the three little letters. As of now, there are over 51 million different videos on the video-sharing app that feature #ong.

What's the meaning of other "2020 slang terms" like ong that people use in texts?

You might be wondering what "periodt" means. No, it's not someone misspelling "period" — it's just someone trying to emphasize a point even further. "I didn't steal your ice cream. PERIODT" is a good example of how this term's utilized.

While explaining it this way takes almost all of the fun out of using slang and makes the person explicating its use (i.e. me) seem super lame for doing so, this is a cross I'm willing to bear for you, dear reader.

Apparently people are using "wig" to explain just how excited they get over something. As in they're so stoked that their "wig" flew off in ecstasy. Yeah, I think it's strange too. I mean, I don't normally wear wigs so maybe that's why.

This one's been used for a while, but "bet" isn't referring to some casual form of gambling between friends. It's basically a response to a challenge someone puts forth to you.

It's a form of saying "we'll see" or "just watch." Example:

"Mustafa, you're not going to eat that Vermonster in one sitting."

"Aite, bet."

If you've also heard the term "cap" being thrown around, all that means is "lie." So if someone says, "no cap," that means, "no lie." Not really an abbreviation or anything, just another three letter word to replace another three letter word. Weird.

Aite bet dawg Ima let you live 😂😂😂

There are probably tons of other cool slang terms my lame self hasn't heard of yet. What are some that you and your hip young friends are using? Enlighten this fogey, please.
