I didn't bother to ask before because it wasn't my business to begin with. But then when I started to look for tutorials in Youtube for mapping tips, streams... I saw more mentions of RTP, and I thought "Okay, why is everyone talking about this? What is this RTP thing that I should care for future references?" I thought RTP stood for a certain theme, more like website hosting, but it seems that it's something different in the RPG Maker Multiverse. Could anyone please explain? PS: I use MV. Does that matter? Shaz

I see "RTP" everywhere... What is RTP?

People on the board are using RTP in ways that I don't understand the meaning of and I finally have to ask the question. forums.rpgmakerweb.com forums.rpgmakerweb.com woeterman_94

It was actually like this through Ace and changed with MV.

The only time I was involved in RTPs was when I had to download a specific RTP in order to play one or two games (made probably in XP or VX, but I might be wrong) because I got that message that everyone knows already. Now I got a few other questions. It's more related to MV. -Is there any possibility that the deployment of my game makes the "You need X RTP file" message error come up without any warning? -Do custom/DLC tilesets need a RTP for the creator and for the player? When you were developing, it was using the package, and when people downloaded your game, they also had to download that package. It was a way to keep your game's file size small as those resources weren't included in your game download. People who played a lot of games using the RTP could download all the smaller game files, but they only had to download the RTP once. The difference with MV/MZ is that the RTP is no longer a separate package. When you create a new project, you will see that all of the resources, including graphics, are placed into your project folder. When you add custom/DLC tilesets, you do the same thing and placed them into your project. So it's not an RTP any longer, but the term is still used to refer to the 'default' resources that are there when you start a new project. By default, this results in a much bigger file size, because it includes everything, even if you haven't used it. When you deploy, there is an option to Exclude Unused Resources. If you check that, it will go through your database and all your maps, and only include the resources that were actually used. This keeps the file size smaller. However, it doesn't detect what resources are used by plugins. So if you have images that are used by plugins but not in any database entries or events, they will be excluded. This will result in someone downloading your game getting a "file not found" error. If you have any plugins that use graphics that aren't used anywhere else, you have to figure out a way to get them included when you deploy with 'exclude unused resources'. Personally, when I start a new project, the first thing I do is go through all of the audio and img files and delete everything (except System). And I'll set all the audios in the System tab to None. Then I will gradually add resources as I'm developing. This way, I know that ALL of the resources in the folders are actually used in the game, either in the database, in events, or in plugins. So when I deploy, I don't need to worry about the Exclude Unused Files option, because they're ALL used. That's not as easy to do if you're half way through development when you think of it.
