   I greatly enjoyed the fascinating explanation of the retrograde symbol. However Rx is better understood in context of a long list of medical shorthands including Bx, Cx, Dx, Hx, Ix, Mx, Sx, Tx etc. The confusion is, perhaps, similar to that between the Rod of Asclepius and the caduceus.

   Thank you, Dr. Z. When I started digging into this, I was hoping to find a clearer connection. Maybe something like one of the early Renaissance physicians making a general statement like "When this or that planet is in retrograde, don't do bloodletting. Treat the patient with herbs instead." That would in effect say that if the horoscope has an Rx, use pharmaceutical means. Since I didn't find anything like that, I definitely think your explanation makes more sense!

   I read in "The Fated Sky" that Rx "derived from the ancient symbol for the Roman god Jupiter, based on the 'Eye' of Horus, an Egyptian god with magical healing powers" (31, by Benson Bobrick). In this context I would imagine that Rx is an abbreviation of "Rex," the Latin for king (Jupiter, king of the gods)? Although the ancient symbols for Jupiter certainly predate the Latin language... Perhaps Jupiter retrograde was considered especially inauspicious?

      Looks interesting as Jupiter is Jeeva ( life ) so it make sense to use Rx to illustrate recovery by prescribing receipe by doctors with Rx symbol. I dont think Jupiter retograde is bad in chart & we got to see to what extent the retrograde motion is & placement of jupiter, star lord, aspects ,conjunction etc. Retrograde starts with entry Rx, then stationary retograde, stationary direct, exit Rx. Let's say some is born between Rx entry to stationary retrograde - they dont feel much of Jupiter qualities as rebellious nature but jupiter retograde is one way excellent for inward expansion to lift soul & upliftment. Retograde planets typically struggle first half of life & teach own style of wisdom to "re" assess & prove inward transformation. However negative planets like mars, Saturn works a different way. Jupiter retograde likely rebel on status quo of current practices unless they see it & experience themselves to accept it. Children can be very different & not interested in children unless Jupiter badly afflicted . In female chart Jupiter retograde makes her husband unusual for what Jupiter represents. It might be soul is evolving during inward expansion . Narayan
