The slang term TRADE was originally used to refer to a young, sexually attractive gay man who probably engaged in casual gay sex solely for financial gain ("gay for pay"). More recently, TRADE has evolved and is now used to refer to any good-looking gay man, as well as to a casual sexual encounter between men. Casual gay sex between a man from a higher social class and a "working class" partner, especially one encountered in a park or other public area, is known as "Rough Trade".
