What does washing machine spin speed mean?
The spin speed of a washing machine refers to the number of times the washing machine drum spins in one minute. The spin speeds in our range go up to a maximum of 1600rpm; this means that the drum spins 1600 times every minute. To protect your delicate garments, our washing machines also offer the options of lower spin speeds, as low as 600rpm.
The spin cycle comes at the end of a wash cycle. A higher spin speed reduces the amount of water your clothes will retain, meaning they will take less time to dry. Spin speed is measured in revolutions per minute (RPM).

Selecting your ideal washing machine spin speed
It is important to read and follow the washing instructions on your clothes. While a high spin speed is idea for more robust fabrics, such as denim, cotton, and wool, using a high speed on delicate fabrics, such as silk, can lead to damage.
Equally, using a high spin speed can increase how creased your garments are after a wash. To combat this, some of our washing machines feature our SteamCure technology, which disperses steam into the drum at the end of the programme to reduce creases and save time on ironing. Explore our SteamCure washing machines.
To help you select the best spin speed for your laundry, our washing machines feature a number of pre-selected programmes. To protect your delicate garments, our hand wash and delicate programme use a lower spin speed to prevent damage.
How important is your washing machine’s spin speed?
Before purchasing a washing machine, it is important to consider which spin speed is suitable for your needs. Appliances with a higher spin speed tend to be more expensive than those with a lower RPM. One of the most important factors to consider before purchasing a machine is the type of fabrics you are washing. While a higher RPM will be suitable for cottons, synthetics and wool, more delicate garments, such as silk, will require a lower spin speed.
