There is no chance I am able to write an objective review after having seen a Robin Williams film now, but who cares about objectivity at a time like this.

Minor spoilage included, proceed at your own risk.

I have consciously avoided What Dreams May Come since its theatrical run,but I felt like this was as good a time as any as the sad plot might prove to be something of a cathartic experience for me. The story of doctor Chris Nielsen (played by Williams), married to a beautiful Annie (Annabella Sciorra) with two great kids. The parents lose their kids in an accident one day and a few years later Chris dies in accident as well leaving Annie all…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Short as Possible Synopsis:A mans was a great person, dies, and goes to Paint heaven. His wife commits suicide and goes to Hell. He travels on a boat to hell to save her.

Thoughts About What Dreams May Come:- Nothing that is supposed to be emotional works. I can usually go for some good sap, but here It is all forced cheese- particularly the use of his children. Without getting into too far of spoiler details, the way and purpose of his children's appearances in Heaven is pointless and silly and prevents the film from having the meaning it desires to have, especially when the daughter appears in heaven as- - (Slight Spoiler) the hot Asian stewardess that his…

I’m a sucker for anything that focuses on abstract ways in which humans struggle to let go. Add in Robin Williams and it’s a banger.

Rancid kitsch. The best that can be said for it is that Robin Williams isn't as insufferable as you'd imagine in this context (which just means his facial expressions aren't quite moist enough to short-circuit your TV set) and that Cuba Gooding, Jr. exits about halfway through and never returns. Oh, and Williams nearly steps on Werner Herzog at one point. (I only recognized him from his voice.) The friend whose Honorable Mention roster for 1998 prompted me to add the film to my queue will be shuffling off this mortal coil very soon.

the ultimate syncretistic power-movie. needs to be added to every syllabus talking about transcendence and religious motifs in film. quite a unique effort but surely problematic, especially considering the tacky ending. for its absurd CGI world it definitely desires a rewatch one day, also - obviously - as Robin Williams own story gives this a special importance as cultural artefact in the aftermath.

Wonderfully acted, visually sumptuous, emotionally powerful, and exploring the concepts of heaven and hell in a way that's entirely unique, What Dreams May Come is a great drama that manages to never fall victim to being preachy, boring, and sappy when dealing with its subject matter.

Twelfth stitch:

I don't know how to feel about this.

I used to love this movie when I was younger, but now I'm unsure. It's colorful, beautiful, hopeful, your heart swells because there's so much love...But only from the perspective of the main characters.

If you start thinking about it, what about the others? The ones without soulmates? The alone ones? The ones that tried their best, but can't forgive themselves? All the buried ones, the drowned ones, the hopeless ones? Wailing in Hell, wanting help out of the water. Out of the ground. Out of the violence.

And why is suicide perceived as such a horrible awful thing? They say that they're the ones who don't know they're…

Robin Williams traverses the afterlife to find his wife after dying in an ambulance crash. The visuals in this film are absolutely stunning and heaven looks as wonderous as hell looks horrifying. The film covers the full length of the afterlife experience with Chris (Williams) going to heaven and later finding out that his wife killed herself and wound up in hell. He then travels from from 1 plane to the other and risks eternity for a chance at getting her back. As love stories go, it's a pretty great one but I have to say that it sets the bar pretty high. I recall that after watching this, I broke up with the girl I was seeing at the…

Sooooo overtly sentimental. And very 90's. But that can never be a complete negative for me. Very basic as another story on Love triumphing over adversity. But this is a film about a dead Robin Williams being in an AFTERLIFE INSPIRED BY HIS LOVING WIFE'S PAINTINGS, while he tries to save his wife from hell after she kills herself out of grief. Reminder that she loses her husband in a car crash after they both already loose their children ALSO in a car crash 4 years ago. Again this is VERY dramatic. But it's just heartfelt and charming in a pretty inoffensive way.I liked its depiction of Heaven and the Afterlife in general which is beautiful and creative and…

So much harder to watch now that Robin Williams is no longer with us. Tremendously moving, beautiful and underseen film that is still the closest one has ever come to my own spiritual beliefs and notions about the afterlife.

It’s truly a feeling you can’t put words to, seeing your own intricate faith, free from the dogmas and limitations of our world religions, captured on screen by a complete stranger. Or at least to a breathtaking and incredibly validating 95%.

This was crafted and envisioned by someone who isn’t a Christian, Hindu, Buddhist or otherwise, but a little bit of each. An individual, or individuals, of admirably vast open-mindedness.

In consequence, it may have rendered me less unique. A kindred spirit, near or far, is worth more than idiosyncrasy though…it is absolutely priceless.
