It's been five years since Naruto: Shippuden ended, with the last few episodes of the series leading up to Naruto and Hinata's wedding. Naruto and Sasuke's final battle at the Valley of End ended in episode 479 of Shippuden. However, after short stories about other characters like Sasuke and Shikamaru, episodes 494 to 500 feature everybody in Konoha preparing for Naruto and Hinata's wedding.

Consequently, every Naruto fan is aware that our "No. 1 Most Unpredictable Ninja" ended up marrying the girl who always loved him, Hinata Hyuga. However, while this fact is established in both Shippuden and Boruto, we didn't see much of their relationship develop during the series. So when and how did Naruto and Hinata get together? Read on to find out.

When Do Naruto and Hinata Get Together?

Since the beginning of the series, fans have watched Hinata crushing on Naruto from afar. Even though Hinata was always too shy to express her love for Naruto, she found ways to show her affection for him, like when she offered Naruto some ointment after his fight during the Chunin exams. While Naruto was utterly oblivious to Hinata's feelings throughout the series, the Hyuga heiress' feelings for him never changed.

In Naruto: Shippuden, during Pain's assault on Konohagakure, Hinata even confesses her feelings for Naruto. During the Pain Assault arc, Hinata jumps to Naruto's defense when Yahiko Pain pins him down. However, after a short battle with Pain, Hinata is brutally injured, leading Naruto to give in to his anger and transform into the Eight-Tails. When Naruto is back to normal after defeating Pain, it seems that he does not remember the events that took place when Hinata was injured and remains unaware of Hinata's love for him.

Naruto and Hinata get together in The Last: Naruto the Movie, two years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War but sometime before episode 494 of Naruto: Shippuden. The timeline is a bit confusing since the movie was released long before the final battles of the series aired in 2014.

In The Last: Naruto the Movie, Hinata decides to knit a scarf for Naruto and finally express her feelings but is unable to find the courage to do so. Naruto, still oblivious to her feelings, wonders what's wrong but doesn't seem to understand even after Sakura's hints.

On the other hand, Toneri Otsutsuki, a descendant of the Sage of Six Paths' twin brother Hamura Otsutsuki, decides to destroy the earth due to the Fourth Great Shinobi War events. Hanabi Hyuga, a descendant of Hamura and Hinata's sister, is kidnapped by Toneri and taken to the moon, where the descendants of the Otsutsuki clan live. Naruto, Hinata, Sakura, Shikamaru, and Sai head off to rescue Hanabi and bring her back home.

In an abandoned village of the Otsutsuki Clan, Naruto understands Hinata's love after seeing her memories while being caught in an illusion and spending more time with her. He realizes that Hinata loved him even when he was hated and ignored by everyone in the village. After a battle with the Otsutsuki, Naruto and the others save both Hinata and Hanabi. The film ends with Hinata and Naruto confessing their love for one another and a sweet kiss.

The Last: Naruto the Movie was the franchise's highest-grossing film before it was surpassed by its sequel, Boruto: Naruto the Movie. The film was also a critical success, with several writers praising its story for its focus on Naruto and Hinata's relationship and animation.
