What Equipment Do I Need To Return To Comcast [XFINITY]
Maybe your like
I’ve been using Comcast’s Xfinity X1 Entertainment Plan for a long time, but recently I had to move, and Comcast wasn’t the biggest player in the area. Since I needed a really good internet connection for work, I decided it was time to cancel my connection.
The process involved returning a lot of the equipment they installed. Unfortunately, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was supposed to return and what I could keep.
I hopped online to see if I could find out. I also contacted Comcast Support directly just to make sure I got the right information. Finally, I decided to compile what I’d gathered in this comprehensive article.
You will need to return modems, routers, remotes, gateways, television boxes, and the power cords for these devices to Comcast. You can keep the ethernet and coaxial cables.
Why Would You Need to Return Comcast Equipment?

You’ll have to return the equipment if you are switching to a different plan, moving to a different location, or are experiencing difficulties due to faulty devices.
Switching to a Different Plan
Whether you are upgrading to a higher plan or downgrading to a lower plan, your current device set may not be compatible with the new plan you are choosing. Hence, you should send your equipment back to Comcast and get a new set from the company.
Moving to a Different Location

Comcast provides users with moving assistance, which I highly recommend you take advantage of if you plan to migrate. The company will help you install the TV box, modem, or router in your new home.
Experiencing Difficulties due to Faulty Devices:
If your devices are showing signs of needing repair, you have the option to either send them back to the company so that they can repair/replace them or request for a technician to come look into the issue. The former is usually the preferred option for most people since you won’t have to wait for the technician to arrive.
What Needs to be Returned to Comcast?
If you find yourself in any of the above situations, you will need to return a lot of equipment, which include:
- The Cable/TV box
- Modem and Router
- TV remote
- Xfinity internet and voice modems
- Xfinity cameras
- The xFi Pods
- Wireless gateway
Should You Return the Cables?

The only cable you are required to return is the power cord since it is specific to the device you were using. You don’t need to return the ethernet or coaxial cables.
How to Return Comcast Equipment:
You know what equipment you are supposed to return. Now, how exactly do you do it?
Here is a list of the steps you need to follow:
Initiate the Return Online:

The first thing you should do is initiate the process by notifying the company of your desire to return the equipment by following these steps:
- Login to your Xfinity account and go to the Equipment Return page
- In the list of devices shown, check the ones that you wish to return
- Choose a reason for the return, and choose a method of return.
The different methods available are:
Drop-off at a local UPS store:
Pack the equipment inside a sturdy cardboard box and take it to your nearest UPS store, where you will be given a shipping label. They will pack up and dispatch your equipment.
Alternatively, you can contact the store and schedule a pickup for the devices.
You will also be given a receipt with a tracking number, which you can use to track the package’s location. Again, keep this safe until the return process has been completed.
Visit an Xfinity Store or Comcast Service Center:
You also have the option to visit a Comcast Service Center or Xfinity Store and drop off the equipment. They will scan it into their system, and your account status will be updated in real-time. Don’t forget to collect the receipt from the store.
Keep the Receipt and Track the Return:
Regardless of the delivery method you choose, you will receive a transaction receipt that contains the device tracking number. You can use this to periodically trace the location of your equipment and make sure it’s well on its way.
How Long Do You Have to Return Comcast Equipment?

Comcast requires you to return all equipment within ten days of disconnecting service. If you fail to do so, they will charge you the full retail value of the new equipment. Additionally, they may also levy “incidental costs” caused by you not returning the equipment.
What Happens if You Don’t Return Comcast Equipment?
You’ll be charged an unreturned equipment fee, a fee for incidental costs, and Comcast will eventually turn the matter over to a collection agency. The agency will attempt to collect the money for the unreturned equipment.
It will go against your credit score if not paid on time or not paid at all and will show up in your credit history if someone runs it up. So do ensure you go through the Early Termination Procedure.
Final Thoughts on Returning Equipment to Comcast
It’s best to take careful notes, take photos of receipts, and even a photo at the Xfinity/UPS store handing over your equipment, just to be on the safest side, in case Comcast themselves loses track. Keep these records for at least a year to avoid any confusion.
