bilbo6209 B I screwed up today and punched a hole in my Idmax 10 surround, my brother who has worked on guitar amps, guitars, etc for 20+ years, said to use almost any rubbery type of glue that stays pliable after it drys, like goop, etc Has anyone one here successfully "fixed" a hole in a subwoofer surround in the past? If so was it a true permanent fit, or was it a temporary fix that only lasted for a short time? What glue did you use? #1 · Jun 18, 2017 I screwed up today and punched a hole in my Idmax 10 surround, my brother who has worked on guitar amps, guitars, etc for 20+ years, said to use almost any rubbery type of glue that stays pliable after it drys, like goop, etc Has anyone one here successfully "fixed" a hole in a subwoofer surround in the past? If I can fix the surround at least for a decent amount of time I would rather spend that money on a pair of tm65 mkII drivers :) 0 Reply #4 · Jun 18, 2017 100% silicone or E6000. #10 · Jun 18, 2017 This is what is best Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk Show more replies 0 Reply #5 · Jun 18, 2017 I punctured a hole in a JL 15w3 surround with my power drill back in day and just left it. The hole never got worse and I didn't notice any difference in sound. I wasn't pushing it to xmax though. I have also used Surehold Sureflex glue to patch up some garage sale home speakers. It worked pretty well, again though they weren't pushed too hard. #6 · Jun 18, 2017 thanks for the suggestions guys! Ill grab some glue tomorrow and give it a try, Best cast it seals and just works, worst case it fails and I spend the $$ on a recone kit form ID #7 · Jun 18, 2017 Honestly packing tape will work. It just won't look good doing it. All you need to do is stop it from ripping more. The hole isn't likely to effect anything. #8 · Jun 18, 2017 Wouldn't that be a nasty leak in a sealed box? 0 Reply #9 · Jun 18, 2017 A hole would be a leak in a sealed box. I was saying the actual rip would not hurt if you covered it with just tape. #12 · Jun 18, 2017 I put a drill through the surround of a sub one time. 100% Silicone (GE Silicone II) fixed it right up. #14 · Jun 18, 2017 Yep I was using the drill to drive the screws, jumped on the last one and the bit dove right through... About a 1/2" rip. 0 Reply #13 · Jun 18, 2017 I used rubber cement on many drivers from proaudio accordion style surrounds to rubber foam and butyl. It has been a decade of so since My last mishap so I don`t know what new chemicals developed at that time. #15 · Jun 18, 2017 I live in North Iowa and I thought I heard some foul words coming from up north now I know why #16 · Jun 18, 2017 Ya Mr Murphy was pointing and laughing at me all day today lol 0 Reply #17 · Jun 18, 2017 I have use Shoe Goo with great success.
