Kanye West’s jeen-yuhs documentary is finally released on Netflix today, offering an intimate look into the legendary rapper’s career.

The three-part series on Ye has been years in the making and will follow the Praise God rapper’s rollercoaster path to superstardom.

The dad-of-four is currently making headlines over his split from Julia Fox and his Instagram outpouring regarding ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her new romance with Pete Davidson – or Skete – but fans will get a glimpse at life before his worldwide fame, as well as his bond with late mom Donda West, and his life-threatening car crash.

Much of the first instalment focus on his attempt to land his first record contract and the words of wisdom Donda offered before her death, in 2007.

Following episodes, directed by Coodie and Chike, will also touch on his infamous Taylor Swift interruption, and the reaction to describing himself as a ‘genius’.

Who was Kanye West’s mum Donda West?

Donda West and husband Ray welcomed Kanye together in 1977, and got a divorce three years later.

Following their split, the rapper lived with his mom in Chicago, where she worked as part of the English department at Chicago State University.

She had a very close bond with her son, and would often share advice at the beginning of his career – something that is highlighted in jeen-yuhs.

Donda left her job to become Kanye’s manager, and proudly stood by his side at red carpet events and award shows.

How did Donda West die?

Donda died on November 10, 2007, at the age of 58, from complications following a plastic surgery procedure.

In the days before her death, she underwent liposuction, a tummy tuck, and a breast reduction.

Kanye previously became emotional as he discussed the impact the loss of his mom had on him.

In an interview with David Letterman, he told the host that he wished she was able to meet her grandchildren, adding: ‘This would’ve been the funnest time of her life, to have those kids running around that house and being able to go and buy them toys.’

When is jeen-yuhs released on Netflix?

The first instalment – or act – of jeen-yuhs is landing on Netflix on February 16. The following acts will be available in consecutive weeks.

‘A landmark documentary event presented in three acts from Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy is an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye West’s experience, showcasing both his formative days trying to break through and his life today as a global brand and artist,’ the synopsis reads.
