What happened to Meg Ryan?

Meg Ryan is a renowned actress who took an eight-year hiatus from the big screen after her directorial debut with the film, Ithaca, in 2015.

Throughout the 1990s, Meg was a household name – yet over the last few decades, she removed herself from the spotlight.

In a 2018 interview with Gwyneth Paltrow at the In Goop Health wellness summit she revealed: “I didn’t really aim to be an actor.

“I was a journalism major at school, and a curious person, and I wanted to go back out into the world and figure out who I was — am — in relation to other things and other people and other environments.”

In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Meg discussed the reasoning behind her break from acting and her interest in the other side of filmmaking.

“I wasn’t as curious about acting as I was about other things that life can give you,” Meg told the outlet. “I wanted to live more.”

Meg continued: “You’re at a disadvantage as a young, famous person because you don’t know who’s telling you the truth.

“I’m not complaining – there are so many advantages to being famous – but there are fundamental disadvantages for a part of your brain, your self, your soul.”

What is Meg Ryan’s new romantic comedy?

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, Meg Ryan took to her Instagram account to confirm the announcement of her return to the world of romantic comedies.

“HERE WE GO!!” she captioned the post, sharing an image of the movie poster.

The words: “They missed their connection,” are written across the poster.

Silhouettes of a couple dancing in the snow beside a suitcase and what appears to be a dog grace the bottom of the image.

Meg is both directing and starring in the film, and her co-star is set to be the actor and musician, David Duchovny.

What Happens Later is set to premiere in theaters on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Who is Meg Ryan?

Born on November 19, 1961, Meg Ryan is a native of Fairfield, Connecticut.

After graduating from Bethel High School in 1979, Meg went on to study journalism at both the University of Connecticut and New York University.

While in college, Megan began acting in commercials and a soap opera – As the World Turns.

She went on to leave school early and join the Screen Actors Guild.

Is Meg Ryan dating anyone?

On Valentine’s Day in 1991, Meg married actor Dennis Quaid. They share one child, Jack, born in 1992.

In June 2000, she and Dennis separated; their divorce was finalized the following July.

Meg adopted her daughter, Daisy, from China in January 2006.

She dated John Mellencamp on and off from 2011 until 2019. In 2018, for a short period of time, the pair were engaged.
