In math, a fact family can either be a set of four facts about addition and subtraction or a set of four facts about multiplication and division using 3 numbers.
For example, here is a fact family about multiplication and division using the numbers 3, 9, and 27.
3 × 9 = 27
9 × 3 = 27
27 ÷ 3 = 9
27 ÷ 9 = 3
Here is a another fact family about addition and subtraction using the numbers 6,7,and 13.
6 + 7 = 13
7 + 6 = 13
13 - 7 = 6
13 - 6 = 7
A fact family is used in order to help students see the connection between addition and subtraction and between multiplication and division so they can better understand math and as a result be able to solve some basic math problems quicker.
