A male bear is called a boar, and a female bear is called a sow.A group of bears is referred to as a sloth.

The classic brown bear can grow to a height of six to seven feet when standing on their hind legs, although one type of brown bear, the Kodiak bear, can stand up to 10 feet tall. The adult boar weighs anywhere from 300 to 850 pounds, while sows usually weigh from 200 to 400 pounds.

Brown bears are apex predators, which means that no animal in the food chain preys upon them. Still, they do not eat other animals, since they are omnivores. They eat a seasonal diet of grass, fungi, berries, nuts, honey and the occasional fish or bird.
