About Master Builders

A master builder can be defined as a builder that is a member of a state or national Master Builders Association.  Master Builders Associations exist for every state and territory of Australia.  These builders can be residential or commercial, large or small companies, or even subcontracting firms.  Master builders operate to a strict code of conduct and perform work to the highest quality.  You will find that a master builder can be a generalist builder or they can specialise in a certain area.

Choosing a Master Builder

When you are choosing a builder, it is important that you consider one that is a master builder.  This is because master builders are expected to comply with all of the relevant laws, codes, and regulations that apply to the building industry; to actively improve their skills and preserve the skills that they already have; to be fair and honest in all dealings that they have with clients and other professionals; and to get involved with educational programs that enable the community to better understand the building industry.  Master builders are also expected to act with integrity at all times. Of course, when you are choosing a master builder should also make sure that the builder is fully licensed and registered and that they hold all of the necessary insurances such as warranty insurance and public liability insurance.  Make sure that you see their references and that the contract that you sign is in plain English and that you can easily read and understand it.  If there’s anything you don’t understand in the contract, the master builder should be more than willing to explain it to you.You might also like: What is a Knockdown Rebuild?, Pros and cons of building a duplex
