Email What is a Shower Steamer/Shower Bomb and Why Do I Need One?

Although bath bombs rose to mainstream popularity over the past few years, believe it or not, they were actually invented in 1989. They’re great when you want to add some aroma when taking a bath, but what’s a guy to do when he showers? Enter the Shower Steamer.

What’s a Shower Steamer?

For thousands of years humans have used essential oils in steam rooms and saunas for stress relief and recovery. The soothing scent of eucalyptus and peppermint oil has been used for centuries to help individuals reduce stress, enhance rest and encourage relaxation. A shower steamer is made using these same types of essential oils and has the same effect as they dissolve in your shower.

A shower steamer is basically a bath bomb for your shower. It fizzles, bubbles and releases an amazing scent while you shower but won’t require you to take out a loan to pay for your water bill. They’re super easy to use too – simply place one somewhere in your shower, and as water hits it, it fizzles and releases an amazing mix of essential oil scents into the air. The steamer portion of the name comes from the fact that the steam and humidity generated from a hot shower helps to enhance the aroma of the essential oils in the air.

Just open and place in shower. Allow water to run onto steamer to begin dissolving.

Why Should I Use a Shower Steamer?

Most people don’t really give a second thought to their shower routines, and why would they? Showers are a super efficient way to shave some serious time off your morning routine and are a much better means for cleaning oneself than a bath. For most people, their shower routine consists of jumping in, quickly cleaning themselves, and then hopping out all within a few minutes.  The shower though is a great place to slow things down, de-stress and do some of your best thinking. Whether you shower in the morning or at night, taking some extra time to really enjoy your shower is a great way to plan how your day is going to go or reflect on how it went - and a shower steamer can help create an environment that encourages you to relax, de-stress and think more clearly.

Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Menthol are also great for relieving nasal congestion, and as you can likely imagine, a hot shower with the sharp smell of mint and eucalyptus cutting through the air can provide relief to those suffering from nasal congestion, seasonal allergies or a winter cold.

Shower Steamer Aromatherapy

Can I Put a Bath Bomb in The Shower?

In short – no. The reason being is that the essential oils in a shower steamer are much more concentrated than a bath bomb. A bath bomb in your shower will diffuse quickly and not generate much of an aroma when compared to a shower steamer. Since bath bombs are meant to be dissolved in a bath tub, the concentration of essential oils within them is fairly low so as not to cause irritation to ones skin. Shower steamers on the other hand are not meant to come in contact with your skin, so the essential oil concentration is much higher, resulting in a much stronger aroma when you shower.

What’s a Shower Bomb?

Whether you decide to call them shower bombs or shower steamers is a matter of personal preference. Either way, using one will give you the same great benefits no matter what you call it!
