- What is a Sliding Fee Scale?

A sliding fee is a cost to you that is determined by your income. For example, if you have very low-income you will be asked to pay less for a service than someone who has more income.
Agencies offering services based on a “sliding fee” or “sliding scale” may START their lowest fee at a cost that is still high for a person with limited income. There is no guarantee that a service fee based on a sliding scale will actually be affordable to everyone.
