What Is An “Aggie”?

If you play football in Beal City, you know all too well who your rivals and their mascots are. For example, just this week the Varsity team traveled to Pine River Area to face the Bucks. Last week? They hosted the Clare Pioneers. So, if bucks are deer and pioneers are settlers, then what is an “Aggie”?

Despite what one may think when they see Beal City’s mascot, Pegasus, an Aggie is NOT an animal. If that were the case, then an Aggie could not only be a mythical creature, but it could also be a dog as it is at Texas A&M (border collie) or North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University (bulldog). No, an Aggie isn’t an animal, but instead a person. The term “aggie” is derived from the ag in agriculture and refers to those involved in the field; fitting for a small farming community such as Beal City.

So, next time you’re cheering on Beal City, take pride in being an Aggie and a part of an agriculture community! Check out the Aggies’ schedule to stay up-to-date on all of the action this fall!
