An air bath is a welcome feature to have in your home, especially after a long day when you want to relax and unwind. An air bath uses air jets to infuse warm, gentle bubbles into your bath water.

Air Bath and Whirlpool Bath Differences

Many people think an air bath and a whirlpool bath are basically the same, but there are distinct differences even though the experience can feel similar.

  • Air baths use air to power jet massagers. A whirlpool bathtub uses water to create the massage jets.
  • The two also feel different: Whirlpool bathtubs produce higher pressure massage jets, while an air bathtub will provide a gentler massage.
  • Whirlpool baths can keep the water warm for a long time. Air tubs are less effective at maintaining heat because the air they draw in comes from outside the tub.
  • Air baths also do not recirculate the bathwater, unlike traditional jetted bathtubs that use a pump.
  • Air bathtubs are generally easier to maintain than whirlpool tubs. Because air travels through the jet system instead of water, there is less chance for mineral residue, soap scum, and mold to develop internally. The air system dries more quickly after each use, which reduces the chance of lingering moisture that can lead to bacterial growth.
  • Air baths may cost less than whirlpool baths but are still very efficient for relaxation and stimulating circulation.

Why Air Baths Remain Popular

Air baths are reminiscent of bubble baths, especially those made with fizzy bath products. Air bath therapy gained popularity in the early twentieth century as hydrotherapy practices became commonly used.
