This is the definition of an ionic equation in chemistry and a look at how a complete ionic equation and net ionic equation differ.

In the molecular equation for a reaction, all of the reactants and products are represented as neutral molecules (even soluble ionic compounds and strong acids). In the complete ionic equation, soluble ionic compounds and strong acids are rewritten as dissociated ions. In the net ionic equation, any ions that do not participate in the reaction (called spectator ions) are excluded. As a result, the net ionic equation shows only the species that are actually involved in the chemical reaction.

We use chemical equations to help us describe chemical reactions. For a reaction involving ions, we have a choice of chemical equations, depending on the kind of info we want to convey. We can represent such a reaction by a molecular equation,a complete ionic equation or a net ionic equation. Precipitate : Sometimes when whater solutions of two different ionic compounds are mixed,an insoluble solid seperates out of solution. The precipitate that forms is itself ionic; the cation comes from one solution, anion from other. To predict the occurence of reactions of this type,
