What Is Gravy Master?

Gravy Master® is one of those ingredients I always have on hand. I use it as a flavoring in gravy making, whether I am making beef, pork, chicken or turkey gravy. There is something about this little miracle in a bottle that gives a richness and depth of flavor to the gravy. Another way I use it is in my soups and stews. You can also add it when you are caramelizing vegetables. Just a couple of drops really helps. Originally this product was introduced in 1935. It was marketed and promoted as a browning and caramelizing seasoning sauce. The idea took off and it was soon a staple in homes from Maine to Florida. As more and more chefs wanted to use this in restaurant kitchens, Gravy Master® was marketed in larger sizes than the original 2 oz. and 5 oz. bottles. They began to produce the product and sell it in quart and gallon sized containers. Other uses for the product have been to add it as a flavoring in Bloody Marys and to brush on meats or vegetable when grilling. Gravy Master® contains a concentrated blend of celery, onion, parsley, garlic, caramel, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, apple vinegar, salt and pure cane sugar. It does not have any chemical preservatives or any artificial coloring. It is a all vegetarian and can be used in any vegetarian or vegan dish. I researched all of my information on a site that is dedicated to Gravy Master® and also found out that it is considered a Kosher product that has been certified by the Orthodox Union. I keep it with the spices. I cant find it anywhere anymore lately. It's an arm and leg online.

  Depending on where you live you can find it at any west indian or korean grocery store for about 2$

  I found 12-2 oz. bottles online at WallaceFlynnCollective.com for $29.99 with free shipping. It is not available at any markets in my area. Other places had a higher price per ounce. I will probably share with friends.

I brush this on my roast beef before adding the seasonings. I brush wedges of onions too. Makes for a fabulous gravy when your done roasting. Adore this stuff and I agree great in soups or put in a spry bottle to add to veggies before roasting.
