Mijaín López, in full Mijaín López Núñez, (born August 20, 1982, Los Palacios, Pinar del Río, Cuba), Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler who was considered one of the sport’s greatest athletes. He was the first male wrestler to win four Olympic gold medals. López began wrestling when he was 10 years old. His large stature was well suited to wrestling—he was nicknamed “the Kid” as an ironic nod to his incredible size and “the Terrible” in reference to his competitive nature on the wrestling mat.
