MJTys M Seen an R53 but it's got close to 150k, it's had a new clutch, etc but it's still a lot, it's cheap enough but has it got much life left in it? Thanks #1 · Sep 27, 2015 (Edited by Moderator) Seen an R53 but it's got close to 150k, it's had a new clutch, etc but it's still a lot, it's cheap enough but has it got much life left in it? Thanks Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Sep 27, 2015 It depends how often it's been serviced and how it's been driven. #3 · Sep 27, 2015 Would depend grately on if its been well maintained, if its done 150k motorway miles at 70mph, or if its done 150k been thrashed to death around the doors #14 · Feb 6, 2021 I have an 09 mini Cooper clubman I have gone 176,000 miles so far the regular maintenance yeah yeah replace all the winter stuff that normally goes wrong with any car your car runs good and I get up and driving Like you stole it where is your game and that’s how I drive mine Show more replies 0 Reply #4 · Sep 27, 2015 But personally, I wouldnt touch any hot hatch with that sort of mileage, id only concider those miles on something like a BMW diesel ex lease hire with full dealer history, and even then it would have to be cheap #5 · Sep 27, 2015 As above, if you don't know the history then I wouldn't bother buying it. These engines can rack up lunar mileage providing they are regularly maintained and not thrashed #6 · Sep 28, 2015 Any mileage not covered by a warranty is too much. #7 · Sep 28, 2015 Its not just the engine, but the suspension and everything else. I would never buy a car with that millage in even a Diesel #8 · Sep 28, 2015 109000 miles no trouble so far hoping to get 200000 out of her or even 300000 #9 · Sep 28, 2015 Well I've just added another R55 Cooper D to the fleet and its a 1 owner car from new with 127k under its belt with a FSH and all motorway miles by the look of it as the bonnet is peppered with stone chips so the dealer has agreed to get the bonnet resprayed. #10 · Sep 29, 2015

An R53/2006 can have an average km from 90,000 to 160,00. A stamped dealer service book will tell you how often its been in to the dealership for a service. What you wont know unless you request a dealer service history print out is what repairs and or additional work (new clutch) its had done to it by an authorised BMW dealership. It wont tell you what a 3rd party mechanic or the previous owner has done to it. Is it worn out ? depends on if its been thrashed, driven carefully, driven highway or driven local short distances. Had regular preventative maintenance. 150,000 km is towards the top end of expected average mileage. If its a 2006 model, its 9 years old and will obviously have wear and tear based on its age and how its been driven. It is after all, a second hand car so its an unknown quantity. A good visual inspection of the car and also underneath and an inspection of the engine bay and listen to the engine running is required. If your not sure, take an experienced mechanic with you before you commit. Should you decide to commit, have a contingency plan for potential repairs based on common faults and cost. As mentioned ad-nauseam in this and other forums, once you take possession, change all fluids and filter regardless, a lot of repair items are not hard to DIY and this alone will save a huge amount on labour costs. If you want something that was a solid warranty and peace of mind in regards to previous ownership, then buy New not second hand. Pelican parts, Modmini on YouTube, this and other forums alone have a wealth of information available if you care to look in regards to maintaining and repair of Mini's Unless you have a written report of cylinder compression values, a report on a visual inspection of the Super Charger, Gearbox, Clutch, engine mounts, brakes etc etc its virtually impossible to say how much life is left in the car over the internet on a forum regardless of age. ::smile:: #11 · Sep 29, 2015 Firstly, It depends upon how well the previous owner treated the car, As long as the previous owner took care of it and did the regular maintainance, For R53, It can range from 75k to 150k. #12 · Nov 11, 2015 Mine is a 2009 Mini Cooper bought from the mini dealer in 2012 and even now it's only done 21,000 miles #13 · Nov 11, 2015 Thats good going. I bought my wife a 2009 Cooper D Clubman just over a year ago with 20,000 miles on the clock. Its now just about to turn on to 40,000 miles 0 Reply #16 · Oct 4, 2023
