Now I'm no noob at MC, but I am having a big problem with my latest project..... A very large structure made of coal blocks..... and no, there is no other block like wool or obsidian that i can use. Now here is the question; what would be the quickest way to get a massive amount of coal in as short amount as possible? does anyone know what Y level is the best for finding coal? Just run through higher up caves, they tend to have more coal and it is much better than strip mining. Use fortune then make them into coal blocks to fit more, or just use silk touch while in the cave and fortune them later. Even small bits of coal usually have a lot more hidden behind the stone, so go for everything, you'll be surprised just how much coal you can get when you don't skip any veins like most people do. Uhh, you can't use charcoal to make coal blocks. He doesn't want the fuel he wants it as a building block Rollback Post to Revision RollBackBored enough to watch some vanilla lets plays? http://www.youtube.com/user/Crump3txxix

Oh I know your pain. I made a 200 block long road out of coal blocks. And a checkerboard flooring made of quarts and coal blocks. I just went caving with a silk touch pick every time I needed more. Just finding a cave at the surface and going through it will give you lots of coal. Make sure to bring a ender chest so you have more room to put your stuff in. Here is my topic about getting coal blocks: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1915945-does-anyone-else-do-this-for-coal-blocks/#entry23634988 Well you could make a wither skeleton farm, they drop coal. When something is to hard to do just cheat right? That will be handy in collage when cheating can get you kicked out. I agree caving is the way to go, here. Coal ore comprises roughly 1% of all stone, regardless of altitude, so as long as there are caves where you are, they probably have coal in them. No need to dig at a certain height or anything like that. Bring a Fortune III pick, if you have one, or else Silk Touch to bring the raw ore back home and save 'em for later until you do get Fortune.
