Timelost weapons are essentially better versions of the basic Vault of Glass weapons, with an extra third and fourth perk slot and a slot for Adept weapon mods.

To get a Destiny 2 Timelost weapon, you will need to complete its particular challenge in the Vault of Glass on Master difficulty. You can check out our Destiny 2 Vault of Glass walkthrough for tips on how to beat it. Bungie used to set one challenge per week in the free PC game, meaning players had to complete each raid challenge on Master difficulty each week over the course of five different weeks to gain all five Timelost weapons and earn Found Verdict, which requires the completion of all five challenges. But now, the Master Vault of Glass raid is only available on specific weeks when Vault of Glass is the featured raid. These changes also mean that players can complete all five challenges in a single week.

You only get one Timelost weapon drop for completing the challenge in the first place, but once a particular Timelost weapon has dropped for you, you'll then be able to buy new copies of it at the Spoils chest at the end of the raid, just like a normal Vault of Glass weapon - albeit new Timelost weapons have an inflated cost of 25 Spoils of Conquest.

This is why farming for Spoils of Conquest is more important than ever - it's a far more efficient way to chase the so-called 'god roll' on these precious guns than waiting for the next challenge rotation for that weapon. You can only get Spoils of Conquest from raid chests and raid encounters, and more recent raids tend to drop more of this valuable resource.

With King's Fall front and center, Bungie presumably wanted to make it easier for players to find fireteams for legacy raids by funneling players into specific raids each week. They also made the raid more attractive during those weeks by ensuring these weeks are the only weeks Guardians can play them on Master difficulty. The benefit of this is that players can work through all Master Vault of Glass challenges in a single week rather than having to complete the raid five different weeks.
