The Great Gatsby The thriving rich life in the 1920’s consisted of flashy cars, drinking, and partying. The 1920’s continues to be one of the most extravagant time eras known to man. Many were seeking the fortune brought upon by down unders and the ban on alcohol. F. Scott Fitzgerald strongly depicts how life was for the wealthy of New York. The Great Gatsby is set in New York, the setting plays a key part in action that’s portrayed throughout the movie and the music being transposed throughout gives it a modern, yet ancient feel, which is appealing to all age groups. . The setting of the movie is set in the West Egg and East Egg as well as New York. The East and West Egg are in Long Island and house most of Gatsby's parties. New York was a playground for the rich and wealth seeking beings. Throughout the movie, Nick Carraway is constantly in New York City, stressing about the life of Gatsby and the stock market. Throughout The Great Gatsby, music is constantly playing, whether it be at one of Gatsby’s parties or in the middle of New York City. At the opening of the movie, a classical sounding song plays while the title appears. This starts out thinking the movie will contain a lot of classical music, then ears are filled with the sound of Jay Z and Kanye West. Sounds of Jay Z, Beyonce, Lana del Rey, and other well known artist are encrypted within the movie’s duration. the classical music is used in the opening and closing of the movie, creating feelings of serenity and a previous time period that’s been long gone. The use of the music keeps generations, young and old, attracted to the movie and the action occurring within. Certain songs within The Great Gatsby play a strong role in emotional appeal of the audience, sad songs are played in sad moments while joyous songs fill the ears of the viewers in the exciting and joyous moments of the
