Number fans across the world are particularly excited about today's date.

February 22 this year marks a special moment in the Gregorian calendar which has been made all the more remarkable by falling on a Tuesday.

Today all the digits of the date - 22 2 22 - are the same number, lending to the nickname Twosday.

‌

The numbers make a palindrome, which is a sequence of numbers, words of phrases which read the same left to right as they do right to left.

It also creates an ambigram, where the sequence reads the same upside down.

‌

Both a palindrome and ambigram date won't happen again until 2080, according to the Economic Times.

And another Twosday won't happen again for 200 years, until 2 22 2222.

The excitement will mount even further tonight just before 10.20pm, when the digital clock reaches 22:22:22 on 22.22.22.

Google is also celebrating the occasion; if you type 'twosday' into the search engine, your screen will be showered in confetti and raining twos.

Twitter users have been sharing their delight at the date, reports Surrey Live.
