But what makes a pickle kosher?
This and many other questions will be answered on Sunday evening, Feb. 9, at the Chabad Center in Chester where the “Pickle Rabbi” -Rabbi Mendy Margolin of Brooklyn - will offer an original workshop on Kosher Pickle Making.
A “Dill-icious” way to preserve the Jewish spirit, participants will learn the secrets of the age-old art of making kosher pickles and take home a jar of freshly made pickles.
“This evening will offer a unique opportunity for Jews of all backgrounds to come together for an entertaining and educational evening,” said Rabbi Pesach Burston, who co-directs Chabad with his wife, Chana. In fact, the “Pickle Rabbi” has presented this workshop previously at Chabad and was invited back by popular demand.
Essentials
The Chabad Center is located at 1170 Route 17M in Chester, Suite 1. Space is limited and reservations will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Suggested age is 12 and above, with an $18 fee per person.
Pickle bar as well as a fruit bar will be served.
This event is being offered in connection with the Jewish holiday of “Tu B’Shevat,” the 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar — celebrated this year on Feb.9-10 — the day that marks the beginning of a “New Year for Trees.”
This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle.
