Not all celebrity breakups are equal, while some famous exes are able to split amicably and remain friends. Others will probably always hate each other. In Ashanti and Nelly's case, she revealed that she hadn't seen him since they parted ways. It's safe to assume that they haven't spoken, either. Nelly has been in a long-term relationship with Shantel Jackson since 2014 while Ashanti has been linked to several celebrities over the years.

They Were Together For Nearly A Decade

It was the 2000s, capri pants and low rise jeans were all the rage, and Ashanti and Nelly were one of the most popular power couples. They kept their relationship out of the public eye for the most part and were together for almost a decade. The famous exes met in 2003 at a Grammy Awards press conference, where sparks flew.

The duo was together for nearly a decade and engagement rumors were even thrown into the mix, but Nelly and Ashanti didn't get their happily ever after. In 2013, they split up and kept the details of their break-up to themselves. Of course, that only intensified the speculations surrounding their breakup worse.

Per Madam Noire, Ashanti told Hot 97's Ebro Darden, "Nelly and I are kind of in the space where I’m kinda like focusing on my career, he’s focusing on what he’s doing, you know there’s a lot of things that happened this year, you know a lot of things kinda went public more than other things have gone public before, you know what I’m saying?"

She further revealed, "And um, I kinda just… I have to do me. We’re in that space right now and there are things that were said and things that were done, that probably shouldn’t have been said or done, but they have been."

What Led To Their Breakup?

Eight years after their split and both stars are still mum about the details surrounding it. Although Ashanti revealed that she's been "betrayed", the public still isn't privy to why they called it quits. It's not surprising that the exes have kept this information hush-hush considering how private their relationship was.

Per E! News, Ashanti revealed on the Meredith Vieira show, "I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities, it allows them to act out of character. I've been betrayed. Again, you just have to grow, you have to grow up and accept responsibilities for the things that you do."
