Golf balls have come along way over the past decade and brands such as TaylorMade and Titleist now make the best golf balls that money can buy, packed with technology and materials that help the world's best win the biggest tournaments around.

The inside of a golf ball depends on the brand and also the quality and you'll often see when reading the box it will tell you how many 'pieces' the ball is made up of, which essentially means how many layers there are.

One-piece golf balls are the cheapest balls that money can buy and are either in the bags of first-time golfers, or you'll often see them at driving ranges as it's cheap for the golf club to buy and restock when necessary. They are made of one material, that being surlyn, while other balls have a seperate core beneath the outer cover.

The core of a golf ball can be made up of different materials, depending on the brand. Typically, a golf ball's core is made from synthetic rubber, which can be mixed with other materials such as metals (tungsten or titanium) while other brands might mix their cores with acrylate.

The layers of a golf ball are used to add certain aspects, such as distance, speed and feel. In a three-piece golf ball, the core is wrapped in a layer of rubber and then wrapped with the outer cover.

Four-piece golf balls such as the Titleist Pro V1x, are used by Tour professionals and feature an extra layer that is the thinnest component of the ball, used to create feel. Four-piece balls are typically the most expensive on the market, but some brands have released five-piece and even six-piece golf balls.
