Join the community Let me start off by saying that I know NOTHING about astrology. Nada. So I was taken aback, to say the least, when I heard my coworker make a comment today about my zodiac sign (Virgo) which sounded like it was an insult….? A group of us were in the middle of brainstorming for a new product launch, and I volunteered to be the point person managing the details for an upcoming campaign. Under her breath, I heard my coworker say with a sarcastic tone: “would never guess you’re a Virgo!” (My birthday is on the team calendar for this month — I guess that’s how she knew). When I called her out and asked what she meant by that, she tried to laugh it off and change the subject, but I’m still upset. What did she mean, and how am I supposed to respond to something like this?

Where are the entry level jobs? I’m an industrial and systems engineering student graduating in May, and I’m struggling in the job search. Jobs that are listed as “new grad” are just hiring last summers interns, and other jobs that require a degree have applicant pools with very experienced professionals and advanced degrees. I’ve used school resources, every kind of job board, and direct contact with people at companies I admire but I keep coming across job descriptions that require applicants to have been doing that exact job (if not very similar) for 2+ years. Am I missing something?0 Likes0 CommentsNeeding insight - dead end with this role? I've been through 3 interviews (HR screen, hiring manager, and then manager again with additional leadership) - followed by a lunch with the team I’d be working with. This was a week and a half ago. I emailed recruiter a week after the lunch and he is apparently out of the office, and his back up contact never replied back after saying they would “check on it”. Recruiter should be back today or tomorrow. After 3 interviews plus lunch, I - perhaps wrongly- assumed I was close to an offer. Would the offer stage be held up because the recruiter is out or wouldn’t they have a back up handling that stuff? Not sure how HR teams handle these situations. The recruiter has always been the point of contact with the exception of brief thank you notes to manager. In fact, after the lunch he responded warmly to the TY note saying they enjoyed it and would be in touch soon with “next steps”. I don’t know whether to assume this is dead or hold out hope. I’d really love this job - been wanting to get in there for a while. Any insight is appreciated!!0 Likes4 CommentsIs the position closed? Or not? I made it through the second round of interviews, and was waiting to see if I would go to the skills assessment and then final round (Director of L&D role). HR was good about emailing me weekly with "just waiting on them to decide next steps". This went on for 3 weeks. Then I say the EXACT job reposted on LI. I emailed the HR manager and received a "I don't know why it's posted - but we've put a hold on that position. I'll let you know when we open it back". OK. Odd. I reached out to my friend that works at the company in a peer-level role and she said that she hadn't heard anything about the role being on hold but that "doesn't surprise" her. So - just write it off as a weird way of saying "you're not a fit"? Or reach back out in a month or so? I've been ghosted plenty of times - just never had this happen.2 Likes3 CommentsMeeting Prep/Questions... There was a meeting put on our calendars for this Thursday as a "team meeting" I work in a predominately male industry (I think there are 3 women in our office). As a Project Admin I do a lot of their admin stuff for our Construction projects. I was hired in May, have been here for about 9months. The first meeting we had I was told just as a "pow-wow" and it turned to everything I was doing wrong from the Project Managers. The previous project admin was here for over 30 years, and they are so accustomed to what and how she did things. With me as a new person in the role, I do things as I was trained but tweak them a bit to make it a lot easier on the guys where it's not redundant work for all of us. That way we are more productive, and we can shift some of our work and focus on more. How would you prep for this meeting, I feel like it's going to be another " Stuff our Project Admin does wrong" meeting (as they like to not come to you, but go around you).2 Likes3 CommentsA client asked me this week: “How many times should I follow up after an interview?” And I told them the truth: There isn’t a magic number. But there is a smart way to approach it. Here’s what I look at first: ✅ Did they give you a timeline? ✅ Has that timeline passed? ✅ Have you already followed up professionally without chasing? In most cases, once the promised follow-up date has passed: ? A check-in about once per week is reasonable. But here’s the bigger issue: Too many job seekers treat an interview like the finish line. It’s not. Even when the interview feels amazing. Even when they say “you’re a top candidate.” Even when you leave thinking, “I nailed it.” Until you have an offer in writing… you keep moving. Keep applying. Keep networking. Keep interviewing. Because hiring timelines change fast, and ghosting is unfortunately real. ? Let me ask you: What’s the longest you’ve ever waited to hear back after an interview? The previous manager left and since Im the only full time IT instructor I was told to put the application in. I was handling the job of a program director until the position was filled. So I did just as she asked. When I heard that someone else got the job I felt some kind of way. When I asked about the application being submitted I was told they didn't see the application I submitted because the student president resigned before the job was filled. Just want to know what you think about this issue.
