Hey guys! So in my world I came across a village with a Librarian who trades about 30 Emeralds for a Mending book (tell me if that's good or bad)! So I bought two of them, I put one on my Diamond Sword, then what do I put the second one on?

I got 2 mending books, one for the Sword and one for the.... what?

Note: I have these tools and weapons: Diamond Pickaxe with Fortune III, Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III. Diamond Pickaxe with Silk Touch, and Unbreaking II. Diamond Axe with Efficiency IV, and Unbreaking III. Diamond Shovel with Efficiency IV, and Unbreaking III. Fishing Rod with Luck of the Sea II, and Unbreaking III I think it's either II or III. And some extremely god armor :P

I would put it on the Fortune pickaxe since I do a LOT of mining and have to keep repairing and replacing pickaxes.

If you don't do so much mining then perhaps put it on whichever piece of armor has the hardest to get enchantments.

Pickaxes are easy to get with Fortune, Efficiancy and Unbreaking.

    Just testing. :P

Quote from BuilderJay29»30 Emeralds for a Mending book (tell me if that's good or bad)!

That's kinda high. Level I enchantments cost 5-19 emeralds; "treasure" enchantments double this, so you can find villagers that will sell Mending books for prices that range from 10 to 38 emeralds. At 30, you're near the top end of the spectrum, there. But it's still a really good enchantment, and while you should continue to look for one that has it cheaper, in the meantime I wouldn't balk at spending as much as they want for it. Try and trap him in a "stall" or something so he can't get out, and zombies can't get him, so you can always come back and buy more Mending books whenever you want. I'd save one for your Elytra wings, when you get them. Everything else can be replaced (even diamonds are easy enough to find once you run out) but Elytras are super-rare and hard to replace.

I've got a Mending guy for 14 Emeralds, so 30 does seem a bit high (minimum is 10). Then again, you should only need it once for each item, so it's still worth it.

I put Mending on my highly enchanted bow first (Power V, Punch I, Flame, Infinity, Unbreaking III). Then I did my diamond pickaxes (one with Fortune III, one with Silk Touch, both with Efficiency V, Unbreaking III). Then I did my helmet, because all of my other gear at that point was still iron. As I managed to replace the iron gear with swank diamond stuff, I added Mending to each.

In your case you should add Mending to whatever you use most, and will be difficult to replace. I would wait on adding it to the Silk Touch Pickaxe though, because nothing you mine with it will drop XP. To repair that, you should consider building some kind of mob/XP grinder (I already had a mob grinder when I found my Mending trade).

Note that if you have multiple items with the Mending enchant, the game will pick one at random when you collect XP, and if that item does not need repair, it will add the XP to your levels instead of checking if other items need it first. So if you are trying to fix a specific item, you should un-equip other mending items before collecting the XP.

If I were doing this myself I'd put it on a pickaxe first, since I use them far more than anything else; in one world I've used diamond pickaxes around 2.1 million times with swords far behind at only 300,000 uses (in other words, I've used pickaxes 7 times more often than swords) and everything else used less than 60,000 times (for comparison, with an Unbreaking III diamond tool you can get up to around 43,736 uses out of it, including the initial tool and 6 repairs). Considering that you can get unlimited amounts of books (and emeralds) by trading it doesn't really matter what you put it on; if Mending could only be found in chests it would be another matter. Also, at least in older versions (I still play in 1.6.4) the cost of a trade can decrease after they refresh their offers. That is, if they choose an existing trade and a lower emerald cost for it they will replace the existing trade with the cheaper one, not sure if this applies to books though, or it is very unlikely since books also have unique enchantments and they would have to choose the same one again. In any case, 30 emeralds only buys me 3 diamond pickaxes which last for 5-6 days (used for repairs, not as replacements; while 1.6.4 does not have Mending I can repair gear indefinitely if it is renamed).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download. TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4. Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I strongly recommend putting it on a pickaxe as you will most likely be using that the most.

Odd. The range for level 1 enchantments is supposed to be 5-19 emeralds, with "treasure" enchantments doubling this cost to 10-38. Are you using any mods, and what version are you in? Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

No mods. But this is on the console version. I am not sure if this varies differently from PC or not in terms of enchantment costs or range of emerald trades.

Okay guys, just now I went on a Mending spree! I caught a Mending Rod, a Mending Bow, so that means that will save a lot more time! But I bought 4 Mending Books, put them on my Armor, and now I need to get one more for my Silk Touch Pickaxe? My Elytra (when I get one)? AHH!! What do I do?!

Definitely put it on the Fortune III pick. The amount of drops a Fortune III pick will be able to get from having Mending will be well worth it*. *On an entire mining trip, you get a ton of redstone/diamonds/emeralds/quartz/coal, yet your pickaxe is still doing great durability-wise, thanks to Mending.

Edit: Btw, if you need one for the Silk Touch pick and a possible elytra, use your Fortune III Mending pick to mine Emerald Ore. Gets ya tons of emeralds for trading for more Mending books.

When I find someone who sells mending (that's a high price, BTW) I keep him safe and buy mending for EVERYTHING! Armor, tools, weapons, everything. Mending and a good XP grinder like a skelly grinder or better yet, a blaze grinder, means never breaking your tools or armor again.
