Goats bleat, which often sounds like a crying human child or can sound like a screaming human. Goats most commonly bleat to communicate between mother and kids, but they also bleat when distressed, when communicating with other goats, when hungry and for many other reasons.

Goats also make loud snorting noises as an alarm signal to other goats. Male goats will make a grumbling noise while rushing at female goats in hopes of mating. Baby goats can recognize their mother’s bleat immediately after birth. Very young baby goats are hidden away, and the mother’s call is important to allow the babies and mother to find each other when she returns to the hiding spot.
