Which states make up New England?

We’re answering the question you may be too afraid to ask: Which states do the Patriots represent by playing in New England?

Hello! If you’re here, you’re probably curious which states make up “New England.” The Patriots wanted to be inclusive, and instead of just representing Boston, the team took six states in the region into consideration, thus the “New England” grouping in the name.

Let’s get to the nitty gritty here and briefly run through the states of New England.

Connecticut

This state may be best known among sports fans as the home of Bristol, where ESPN is headquartered. It’s the fifth state in the United States, and also known as the “Constitution State” and “Nutmeg State.”

Maine

The East Coast’s northernmost state, Maine was the 23rd state in the union, so it’s basically the Michael Jordan of statehood. It boasts the second-best Augusta in the nation behind Georgia’s. Because, well, nothing beats The Masters.

Side note: The only Mane we acknowledge is Gucci.

Massachusetts

This is where the Patriots play — in Foxborough, Mass. Massachusetts became the sixth state and is officially known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, which sounds really, really fancy.

New Hampshire

Also known as the “Granite State,” New Hampshire was the ninth to get statehood. It forms half of a rectangle and is basically an upside down Vermont.

Fun fact: this Hampshire is newer than the old one.

Vermont

The second-smallest state by population, Vermont comprises the other half of the rectangle, just to the west of New Hampshire. Its most populous city is Burlington, like the coat factory, and it was the 14th state admitted to the union.

John Deere is from there.

Rhode Island

The smallest state in the United States in terms of area is also the second-most densely populated. Rhode Island was the first of the 13 colonies to cut the crap and renounce its allegiance to the British crown — though it was the 13th of the colonies to be given statehood.

There you have it, folks. New England! Don’t you feel smarter?
