The last time Canelo (57-2, 39 KOs) and GGG (42-1, 37 KOs) fought was back in September 2018. It was that bout which saw Canelo walk free with the title of “champion” thanks to a majority decision after 12 rounds, although said decision caused some controversy at the time.

This time, though, Canelo doesn’t want to leave any doubt of who truly deserves a win.

“I’m glad we are fighting for a third time, because I want to leave no doubt about who is the best,” states he. “I know he [Golovkin] feels the same way, and that’s what makes the best fights.

“Canelo is better at everything since the last time he fought Triple G,” says Canelo’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, via interpreter. “I’m not being funny. He has improved with his condition, with his technique, with his toughness. He has more ways to beat you, and I’m not going to say what they are, but Triple G is probably not going to be ready for some of them.”

And what does Golovkin’s trainer, former cruiser champ Johnathan Banks, have to say about that?

“It’s hard to look back at that because we’re so steady looking forward,” opines Banks. “No matter what you see in those fights, you can’t go backwards. Both fighters are significantly different from those two fights and the last time they saw each other.

“That’s one good thing about Triple G—he always, always wants to learn. He wants to be better, and he wants to be more efficient. That’s where I can contribute and show him was to be more efficient, and he’s always paying attention.”
