What to expect from your first Burlesque show

So it’s your first time going to a burlesque show? Here’s what to expect!

• The unexpected! The number 1 thing I hear from first comers is “wow, I didn’t expect that! It’s all so amazing!” so… expect to be surprised, pleasantly surprised!
• NSFW jokes and words. Burlesque is a show for adults, and I mean adults in all senses of the word: expect sexual jokes, expect to hear the words “penis”, “vagina”, “pussy”, “blowjob” and others being used freely. Expect to hear political jokes and the host expressing their beliefs freely on stage.

• Boobs and bums, all kinds of nudity, all sizes, far and close, you may even be a lucky audience member and get invited to rub and be rubbed. I mean, if you want to! Nobody will make you do anything you’re not comfortable doing, but get ready to go wild if you want… that might just be your chance!
• If you’re close enough to the stage… be ready to get all kinds of temperatures and have all kinds of things thrown at you. We have fire performers, we love glitter and even water, so… get close and get wet, or hot, or both!

• Maybe you’ll be even lucky enough to help a performer undress… so expect to maybe be called to hold a glove, peel stockings, get hooked by a feather boa… there’s no 4th wall in burlesque so be ready to have the opportunity to be part of the show!
• Screaming and shouting, lots and lots! Again, the whole point of not having the 4th wall gives the audience the opportunity to participate, be it by being invited to the stage for some sexy sexy games or simply by shouting when you see something you like! I believe burlesque shows have the loudest audiences of them all — and we love it.
• Characters, all kinds, everywhere: either part of the show or not! This week for Ohh! La La! Chérie!’s 10th year anniversary we had dancers, contortionists and I was absolutely pleased to introduce our lovely guests to the house diva: Miss D’Vine:

• And by everywhere, I mean everywhere! Our audience is no less dressed up. However, you don’t have to! You’ll seen everything from long gala dresses and suits, to vintage dresses, and our classic jeans and t-shirt. You do you!
• All kinds of performances. Burlesque is accommodating of all art forms, so you can see drag queens, dark bloody princesses, sexual chair dancers, contortionists, feats of strength, flexibility, charm, balance… duets, singers, giant penises, exotic dancers, belly dancers, mermaids, Star Trek or Sailor Moon cosplayers… my list could go on and on.
• Drinks, especial signature cocktails and sometimes food! Our show here in Zürich proudly serves our favorite and most delicious drink ever: the flaming nipples! (You should try!) And some shows offer even a full course dinner (Proud Cabaret in London, for instance!).
• Fun. Fun. Fun! I genuinely believe burlesque and variety shows to be the most fun shows on earth. So get ready to be in for an amazing time! At our Ohh! La La! Chérie! we even have an after party where you can mingle with the artists!
