What To Spend Poetics On? - Smol Squintina

This is a fairly common question. What do people spend poetics on when they feel they don’t “need” them anymore?

Buy the few unique items

Auriana’s Poetics (Other) has 3 minions and 3 orchestrion rolls.

Hismena’s Poetics (Other) has 2 orchestrion rolls.

ARR/HW Relics

• Atma books step (special NPC when you get to that step, costs 100 poetics)

Normal vendor items:

• First relic weapon step (thavnairian mist)
• Crystal Sand exchange step (thavnairian mist + superior enchanted ink)
• Pneumite
• Singing Cluster
• Umbrite
• Unidentifiable items
• Radz-at-Hand Quenching Oil
• Aether Oil

You can buy these at Auriana’s Poetics (Special Arms) or Hismena (Special Arms). Both sell the same items.

Glamour

If you like any of the gear.

Just remember that the weapons are at the NPC next to the poetics vendor.

So for 50 weapons, they’re at Aelina (Gerolt and Ironworks gear), and for 60 weapons they’re at Bertana (Eikonic and Shire gear). You buy the tokens from the poetics vendor.

Gearing up leveling jobs

If you’re just doing POTD and HoH, where gear doesn’t matter, you probably won’t bother.

However if you’re doing any other form of leveling in a side job that’s 50+, you can use your poetics to buy the Ironworks gear at level 50, or the Shire gear at 60. The gear is honestly good enough to last a full 10 range. Don’t bother with the level 50 Gerolt weapons or the level 60 Eikonic weapons from a leveling perspective as they’re inferior to their Ironworks and Shire counterparts. Those are for glamour.

A little warning: For tanks/healers at 67-69, you will need to work harder if you’re still wearing Shire gear while doing dungeons. It’s still doable, even if both the tank and healer doing a dungeon are wearing shire gear – I know, because that’s how my husband (tank) and I (healer) did it – but you will need to be very active in your enmity combo, defensive cooldowns, and back-to-back healing and MP management.

Get more Grand Company Seals

Hand in your poetics or shire gear for Grand Company seals – ideally accessories.

This is because the GC rate will be the same for the gear of the same ilvl, but the poetics cost will differ:

60 accessory: give 1270 GC, costs 180 poetics

50 helm: gives 690 GC, costs 245 poetics

50 accessory: gives 690 GC, costs 180 poetics

So if you have only Mor Dhona available and you’re spending poetics for the sake of GC only, buy the level 50 Ironworks accessories. If you have access to Idyllshire, get the level 60 accessories. Don’t bother upgrading.

Level up desynthesis

Another use of the poetics gear is to desynth it (Weaver, Goldsmith, Armorer, and Leatherworker).

The 50 gear is 120.00 (130.00 augmented), and the 60 gear is 260.00 (270.00 augmented).

Gardening Soil

You can exchange Unidentifiable Ore for Grade 3 Thanalan Topsoil, and Unidentifiable Shell for Grade 3 Shroud Topsoil at Bertana in Idyllshire. Check your server market prices to determine if that is worth it to you.

Buy crafting materials directly

Hismena (Other) does sell actual crafting materials. Check your server’s market prices to determine if any are worth spending poetics on. You can either use them yourself or sell them.
