What Types of Batteries Can Be Used with the Wii Remote?

Important: If you would like to use rechargeable batteries, the only type of battery recommended is Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. When it comes to using rechargeable batteries, you must follow manufacturer guidelines for safety and proper usage. Failure to do so could cause damage to the Wii Remote and void the warranty.

Nintendo recommends alkaline batteries.

  • Do not use Lithium ion, nickel cadmium (nicad), or carbon zinc batteries.
  • Do not mix new and used batteries (both batteries should be replaced at the same time).
  • Do not mix different brands of batteries.
