I’m not so sure this has much of a reason to exist, but sometimes no reason is the best reason, and either way - I’m kinda glad it does. Not only was it great to see and hear from Loren herself at this moment in time, but the lady who adores her so much was quite a delight to follow. She spends most of the film mirroring her life story onto that of Loren’s, and some of the most touching moments see her reacting to some of her most timeless films; her interpretation of the rape scene in Two Women was the most powerful of all.

I’m kinda intrigued to see more films like this that centre around old people and their heroes. But who next I wonder…🤔

“No one gets everything they want in life. No one does. But we all get enough to feel that our lives are important.”

If I could sum up this documentary in a few words, I’d go with adorable and heartwarming. What a lovely film. I kind of wish it was a tiny bit longer but at the same time, it’s pretty damn good already as it is. To put it simply, it is just a wonderful, short documentary about a woman’s adoration for Sophia Loren and how she inspired her and how she shaped the way she has lived life. It’s truly a delightful, quick watch so if you’ve got a half hour or so to spare, definitely check this one out, it’s just absolutely lovely, to be honest, and is definitely worth a watch.

“What really counts is your belief in life, in people.”

has some beautiful things to say about the important connections we can make with screen idols as by the example of this adorable grandma Nancy and her shining star Sophia Loren, the two of which share so many of the same life experiences. it gets this weird indebtedness we feel towards people we’ve never meet, who we have relationships with based on such a one-sided base of fictional perception, for simply offering an image on a pedestal to latch on to. a great little homage to Loren’s life and work through the eyes of someone who knows her entirely and yet really not at all.

Just a sweet little documentary. Kinda wish there was more. Wouldn't be mad if this ends up being nominated/winning Best Documentary Short lmao.

Such a feel-good story, even in its moments of sadness. You can't help but wish Vicenza was your neighbor.
