MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — The Myrtle Beach Bike Week spring rally is taking place May 13 - 22 and people from all over are flocking to the Grand Strand for the festivities.

According to the event's website, this is the 83rd anniversary of the event. People come to ride, enjoy the coast, meet old friends and make new ones.

The event is expected to bring thousands to the Grand Strand area. One local bar owner and popular biker spot, Beaver Bar, is excited about the influx of people.

The biker community, they are pretty steadfast on their passion and what they love to do and they might try to save somewhere else just so they have money to come," Leslie Beaver, owner of Beaver Bar.

The Bike Week website listed the Plantation Pancake House in Surfside Beach as their motorcycle-friendly breakfast restaurant.

What you need to know ahead of Myrtle Beach Bike Week spring rally

They also remind riders to be mindful to local laws including:

  • Legal drinking age is 21.
  • No open containers of alcoholic beverages in vehicles or public areas.
  • SC law – Motorcycle operators and passengers under 21 must wear an approved helmet.
  • Speeding and seat belt laws are strictly enforced.
  • No littering.

The website offers hotel reservation recommendations.

Some parts of the area are already making traffic preparations.

Within the Town of Surfside Beach, free motorcycle trailer parking is allowed in the 13th Avenue South parking lot and the 16th Avenue North parking lot during all bike rallies however the town said owners are responsible for any damage or loss that may occur.

Parked trailers may only occupy a single parking space and must not obstruct traffic. Trailer parking is not permitted in other public lots.

The city of Myrtle Beach says there will be no bike loop this year.
