So what’s our over/under on the engagement happening this Sunday? I’m really hoping it is so we can have an engaged N&E for the last episode!

They like to do big things in episode 11 so I think it’ll probably happen this Sunday and then we’ll have the finale to get everyone’s reactions and to set up what’s to come for next season. We shall see!

Idk if this makes sense, but this season I feel like Elizabeth has actually been more Erin. We obviously don’t know Erin in real life, but she seems to be a very sweet, silly, goofy lady who enjoys puns and corny jokes. That seems very Elizabeth this season! Ben posted a video of him and Erin for the MS Walk and it struck me how much more “Erin” is in Elizabeth this year. It’s not bad at all, but it is a change. Elizabeth has for sure had silly moments throughout the show, but it’s seemed more consistent this season. And maybe that’s in part because aside from Episode 1, she really hasn’t had a serious plot line in S13. Not sure what others thoughts are, but just an observation!

Yes, Elizabeth is very Erin these days. The character has been much more light and playful like Erin seems to be. I don’t mind it necessarily. I think it shows how comfortable Elizabeth is with Nathan and how she is as a mother to LJ.

Agree!! I never watched Grey’s for Meredith. I fell off after Arizona and April left, but before that I had a long list of characters I loved and it wasn’t Meredith.

I’m glad Lucas said what he did and acknowledged his fear. Elizabeth just hopped right into being friends with him in S11 and he just had to go along with it. I never cared much for Lucas because I didn’t like him with Elizabeth. But the past few seasons I’ve seen him in a different light. I was blindside by an ex once and it still haunts me! Lucas being blindside three weeks before the wedding?! She did him dirty.

You’re exactly right that he just had to go along with it. Elizabeth set the tone. What was he supposed to do? He had to be polite and continue on with his life even though she hurt him and embarrassed him too. It’s truly wild how things went down.

I was excited about Lucas when they introduced him because he had an edge and some mystery. But then they completely changed his vibe so he could mesh well with Elizabeth and it was so frustrating. I’m glad the writers brought him back to the character he was meant to be. He’s so much more enjoyable these days. I don’t like any of his plots except for his stuff with Edie but we’ve come a long way.

I liked Elizabeth very much in the early seasons, when she still felt like a real person, flawed and brave and clumsy and well-meaning and beautifully imperfect. But then, in later seasons, the show started presenting her as a paragon of virtue all the time. She's always good, always wise, always says the right thing, she's good at everything, never puts a foot wrong. Even when she does things that are objectively wrong, such as her handling of the fiasco with Lucas and Nathan, the show still presents her as being right. Every other character adores her and treats her like a queen. It's so tedious. I miss when she was still kind of a mess.

Yeah, I do too. It’s more interesting to have a character with flaws. I understand the show wanting her to be like the moral guide or whatever as the lead but it can feel really phony at times.

No really like one reason I don’t rewatch 8&9 is because Elizabeth is SO annoying. She’s kind of annoying me now, but because she’s so corny these days.

Elizabeth has honestly never been my favorite. I feel like her and Meredith Grey are similar. We can get invested in her relationships and want good things for her but do we actually like the character? Not really. We aren’t watching for her. Any Grey’s fans please tell me if you agree. I can’t believe I’m still watching that show but there’s always something keeping me interested (now it’s Jen Landon’s character - look at me keeping it WCTH-related [although I wonder if her and her brother even have a relationship considering their dad had a lot of kids with multiple wives] - and Amelia). Enough of my rambling. I’m very tired.

I’ve had people in the past not understand how I can watch the show and not care for Elizabeth like that was such a wild concept. Apparently it’s required that we all love her and support her and never question anything she does. I understand the whole giving her grace thing which was pushed by Brian a lot but that can only go so far. She’s definitely very corny these days. I think they’re trying to make her playful too and it comes across a bit strange. I don’t know.

I kinda miss the rugged/frontier feel of the early seasons. I know they're modernized now and I do love seeing them film movies and dance the Charleston n' stuff, but they still live on the rural frontier. ofc their lives are easier since its the 1920s and theres more modern tech, but realistically they would have still been gathering wood for fire, washing hands in a wood tub and wearing thick coats. I know WCTH isn't realistic but its from th "Canadian West" books and I miss the old cozy feel!

Yeah, they are technically still doing all of that stuff but it’s not shown very often. Sometimes we see the ladies doing the laundry outside or a guy chopping wood, etc. but they have definitely moved on from showing that life was still really difficult even with all the advancements.

It’s looking like Hope Valley: 1874 will give us more of that vibe.

I must say, I'm relieved to see the conversation currently happening on your blog, even though I haven't had a chance to watch the latest episode yet. The love triangle was truly so badly written that it made it impossible for me to be either Team Lucas or Team Nathan, tbh. The way it played out made Elizabeth seem fickle and unreliable, and it always bothered me that none of the other characters ever called her out on anything. I didn't want her to be punished, but I did want it to be acknowledged that she had really jerked Lucas around (and Nathan as well to a lesser extent), but the show just seemed so intent on having all the other characters tell Elizabeth she did nothing wrong and they were so proud of her for following her heart yadda yadda... It just never sat right with me, and it turned my previous indifference towards Lucas into compassion and goodwill. On the bright side, I *adore* his relationship with Edie, so at least some good did come of that storyline. Thanks for letting me spill my thoughts in your inbox. This had been bothering me for some time, and it's nice to finally talk about it!

I think the one thing everyone could agree on during the triangle was that Elizabeth was the worst. She definitely wasn’t the “prize”. It was like all her friends tip-toed around her and didn’t want to say anything to upset her. I understand friends not wanting to push but it was crazy how long it went on. She was never really held accountable. I would love to see a conversation with Lucas and Elizabeth now when he’s finally coming to terms with everything and struggling to move on.

I completely agree with you that how everything was handled really changed my view of Lucas. I never expected to care so much about Lucas considering how much the triangle ruined him for me.

It’s so wonderful to see him with Edie. She’s such a great match for him. How things ultimately worked out is obviously for the best. Nathan and Elizabeth make sense and so do Lucas and Edie.

I’ve always been Team Nathan and am so glad we are where we are now, but hearing Lucas talk to Lee last night made me realize how horrible Elizabeth was. Really to both Lucas and Nathan. If she was a friend in real life, I’d be so annoyed at her lol!

    Anonymous asked
  • whencallstheheart replied

Yeah, she didn’t handle any of that well at all. I do think she genuinely cared for Lucas but her heart was never fully in it and it wasn’t fair for her to pick him. She wouldn’t talk to anyone about her feelings at the time and everyone seemed to respect her too much to speak up and offer advice (or a slap across the face). Not that she would’ve listened. I know there was so much wishy-washy stuff with the writers and everyone else getting involved but the entire triangle was fumbled at multiple points along the way and it did everyone a disservice. It’s really nice to see Lucas finally voicing his feelings about it. I’m so happy she’s with Nathan but I do feel really bad for Lucas.

My favorite episode of the season so far!!! 🥰🤩 The Nathan and Allie moments, plus the Nathan and Charlotte moments (a BIG episode and performance from our main guy Kevin) were just perfection. Also, I loved the guy talk between Lucas and Lee. Excited to see what happens next with Lucas and Edie! Next week looks amazing!!!!

If these two get engaged and only touch foreheads though, I’m going to riot. We need a season 11, episode 11 type kiss!

I’m excited for next week! I can’t believe we’re down to the last 2 episodes of the season already.

I’m so curious to see how they bring Lucas and Edie back together. Hopefully they don’t throw any other crazy obstacles in their path.

What, you don’t want a cordial handshake to celebrate their engagement? I think everyone will be upset if we don’t get a great kiss afterwards. It’s been so frustrating.

The entire scene of Nathan and Charlotte was so beautiful. Him vowing to Jack’s grave he’ll take care of Elizabeth and LJ felt so right, and I love that he was there to comfort Charlotte as she let herself grieve her son. This is why Nathan is the right one for Elizabeth. The acting was also 10/10. “I’m so cold and I want to go inside” brought me to tears.

It was so beautiful! I think we really needed that scene to be able to honor Jack and to close that door as we move forward. It just all feels right. Elizabeth and LJ are in great hands and Charlotte knows that. I thought the ending was sweet too with her accepting that they’re all her family, not just LJ, and that Nathan is like a son to her.
