My DS is 3Y3M and still has no words. I feel like his receptive is very poor also. He babbles a lot and pretends to read etc in intelligable language. I'm wondering if he will ever speak...

He had a very few words around 2, but things started to take off a lot more after 2.5, 2.75.
leighlas Posted 04-22-12My daughter had about 20 words when she started school. I wrote each word on a card and on a whiteboard, when she started a new word. When she started developmental preschool at 3 1/2- it really helped with her talking. It started slowly, but she's in kindergarten this year and has made a lot of progress. If you have an iPod or iPad, sesame street has a podcast for each letter of the alphabet. Sesame street has done great programs that were very helpful and still are, for us.Advertisement | page continues below
TurtleBug Posted 04-22-12Ryan spoke small words here and there, but at 3yo his vocabulary exploded.

My daughter is almost 8 and still has zero words and little to no receptive language.
- aahutchga1972 Posted 04-22-124 years, and that was after speech therapy.

started a few words just before 3, stopped, then started again between 5-6. Knows many words but cannot put together sentences without prompting. It's been a long journey and always keep faith!
I have heard many parents say using Cod liver oil (or other high epa/dha supplement) has helped their child with verbage. Best wishes!

Mine had his first word (with meaning) at nearly 2.5. His labels have since exploded and he can name colors, numbers, and most letters. But he also cannot put two or more words together meaningfully without either a prompt or it being scripted language. He just recently picked up labeling us as mommy and daddy. At 2, I didnt think he would ever talk just because I knew the norm was to have the first meaningful word around 12 months. It will be a long journey, but you shouldnt give up. Mine surprised the heck out of me by picking up on his labels so quickly.
- tTara0629 Posted 04-22-12Mine turns 3 in June and J's starting to label things. Mostly with prompting but sometimes without. He can label colors, letters and shapes. His most meaningful word is "no" as he will sometimes use it he really doesn't want to do something. But its hard to understand him. Even no sounds more like na
