bluecow B hiya yet another question from me! Banjo is 11 weeks old now, i was wondering at what age do we start to think about stopping soaking her food before feeding? sally #1 · Aug 18, 2007 hiya yet another question from me! Banjo is 11 weeks old now, i was wondering at what age do we start to think about stopping soaking her food before feeding? sally Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Aug 18, 2007 When you feel like it  Izzy (16m's) has one meal soaked, the other dry.............. #3 · Aug 18, 2007 i'm happy to continue soaking for a while, its part of my routine  , i just wondered if there is a right or wrong time to do it! i will be starting to reduce her meals from 4 to 3 a day soon so i definatly feel i need to keep soaking while were doing that and she adjusts! should i wait until she is on 2 meals a day? sally x #4 · Aug 18, 2007 Think its definitly up to you and Banjo. Star is 23 weeks and has not had her food soaked since she came home at 7 and a half weeks as she prefers it dry. Maybe try adding slightly less water and see how you go? Katrina #5 · Aug 18, 2007 Wicca is 5 months and I still soak her food simply because she eats so quickly she doesn't chew it, just swallows. With all the dry food hitting her stomach unchewed she gets sick. This is her last bag of puppy food so when she gets the new stuff the pieces will be slightly larger. If she chews it then I will stop soaking, if not I'll carry on soaking. #6 · Aug 18, 2007 Erm ... Pepsi is 5 at the end of the year and she still has her food wet( with a dog drink I buy from pets at home Chicken favour ) as it makes her eat it slower otherwise she get tummyache ...... plus then I m sure she is getting a drink in the process while she eats it ....... Its up to you really .... just make sure they always plenty of fresh water when you transfer to dry mix ...... #7 · Aug 18, 2007 Some pups will decide it for you! Amy decided at about 16 weeks that she wanted the same as her mum! I always feed soaked up to around 12 weeks to ensure the pup gets some liquid with the food. But as the adult teeth start coming through I stop soaking and just add the water immediatly before feeding. The reason is that I want it a bit "Crunchy" to help clean the teeth. I think the harder food also helps with teething. By about 6 months I drop the water altogether and feed dry, again to help clean the teeth. Regards, John #8 · Aug 18, 2007 we stopped with the soaking at about 10 weeks.... he just didn't seem to like it soggy. Hes not really had any problems. We always make sure he has plenty water though.... he does drink lots. #9 · Aug 18, 2007 I always feed my dogs dry but my daughter and SIL feed wet. It is really up to yourself which you wish to do. If you do feed dry just make sure there is plenty of water for him, as John says. Hilary #10 · Aug 18, 2007 Blue is 6 months on Monday and I stopped adding water to his food earlier this week, don't know why exactly but felt he didn't need it soaked any longer and he's fine with it. Samantha x #11 · Aug 18, 2007 Coal (12 months) still has his soaked... but only a tiny bit and then with water as it seems to slow him down. We've tried feeding dry and he just inhales it and then has coughing fits. he doesn't chew it at all so i prefer to give him it with water. #12 · Aug 18, 2007 Wicca and Coal obviously think they are hoovers!
