Honestly, I am very tempted to come up with a whole backstory for her.

Okay, backstory!

(spoilers for the finale)

When Master Fu gives up the miracle box, Marinette goes mad with grief, blaming herself for what happened to him.

Her friends try to help her, but since no one what really happened (because of identity reasons), they can’t help her.

Not that Marinette believes that she can be helped in the first place.

Even Wayzz tries, but his words don’t reach her.

She finds herself wanting to get revenge, to go after the man who caused all of this in the first place.

Without telling Cat Noir or Lad Bug, she tracks down Hawk Moth and infiltrates his lair, ready to fight him.

However, Hawk Moth is ready for her.

He tries to “reason” with her, to get her on his side.

“You’re the reason he’s gone! I have no one left because of you!”

“That’s true, but it is possible to bring him back, you know.”

“You mean the wish? No. Never. I will never negotiate with you, you villain!”

“We have more in common than you might think, young hero. I, too, have lost someone in the past. That is why I need this wish. I will do anything to bring her back.”

“You’re a man who has gone mad with grief and is too much of a coward to move on!”

“And you? Can you say with complete certainty that you wouldn’t do anything to bring him back?”

“O-of course!”

“And yet, you are here. What are you hoping to accomplish by defeating me?”

“I-I…”

“Come with me Chelone. Together, we can obtain the miraculous and bring back those we have lost.”

“But… I can’t… I shouldn’t… he wouldn’t want to be brought back, not like this…”

“Are you sure? Do you think he wanted to leave you, alone with the miracle box?”

Chelone stops, then falls to her knees, detransforming.

Hawk Moth smiles and holds out his hand.

“Come, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Together, we can right what is wrong.”

Marinette Dupain-Cheng is a terrifying villain.

She knows how to exploit weak points, trap opponents, and improvise on the spot.

Her new suit is darker and more armored, allowing her to blend into the shadows and take heavier hits.

Cat Noir and Lad Bug try to convince her to come back, but Chelone always refuses.

“The universe has taken everything from me. It’s about time I take something back.”

Marinette becomes more distant from her classmates. Even Nino is worried.

Eventually, Hawk Moth makes an appearance, Chelone by his side.

Two people who have nothing left to lose.

A little backstory in the Chelone AU

-Tom and Sabine were quite young when Marinette was born, so she was raised by an old family friend.

-Namely, Marianne Lenoir

-Marinette met Tom and Sabine when she was about 10 years old and they have tea together occasionally (Marinette isn’t super close to her parents, so it wouldn’t make sense for her to immediately move in with them)

-Marinette was homeschooled for most of her life by an old flame of Marianne’s (can you guess who?) (Wang Fu!) (Hey, that rhymed!)

-Marinette met Nino when she was about 4 years old and they became fast friends

-When she was about 14, Marinette was enrolled in a public high school

-Nino was very surprised when he saw her in his class

“Dude! You didn’t tell me that you were coming here!”

“Well, here I am! In the flesh!”

“Amazing! Hey, everyone! Come over and meet Marinette! She is literally the best person ever.”

-Mrs. Bustier’s class was also where she met Chloe

“Ugh, who is this?”

“I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Nino’s friend!”

“Ha! Nino actually has friends?!”

(Marinette doesn’t like her very much)

-Then Stoneheart happened

-Master Fu gives Nino the ladybug miraculous (Lad Bug) and Adrien the cat miraculous (Cat Noir) (obviously)

-However, they utterly fail

-So, having no other option, he gives Wayzz to his trusted student, Marinette, who becomes Chelone

-Chelone, Lad Bug, and Cat Noir become instant bros

-Alya makes the SuperBlog for the heroes (because let’s be honest, these hero names don’t make very good puns)

-The next day at school, Marinette met Adrien

-She was unsure of him at first, but then the Gum Incident happened

“Dude, why didn’t you just tell her the truth? Marinette would have understood.”

“It just doesn’t feel right to throw Chloe under the bus like that, I’ve known her since I was a little kid.”

“Well, I’ve known Marinette since I was 4 years old and if there’s anything that I know about her, it’s that she has a strong sense of justice. If you don’t tell her the truth soon, she’s gonna hate you forever.”

-So, umbrella scene!

“I just wanted you to know that I was only trying to take the chewing gum off your seat. I swear. I’ve never been to school before. I’ve never had friends. It’s all sort of new to me.”

“Well, I’ve never been to school before, either. I get it. Nino’s been my only friend since forever, so I don’t really have anyone else.”

“Well…” *gives her the umbrella* “…now you have me.”

Thunderclap! Adrien and Marinette’s hands touch and they blush fiercely.

“So… see you tomorrow?”

“Yeah, tomorrow.”

-Now, Adrien and Marinette are in love with each other!

-Nino is stuck in the middle, much to his dismay

“Tikki, what do I do? My 2 best friends have crushes on each other and instead of talking to each other about it, they’re coming to me for advice!”

“Just give them time! Eventually they’ll fess up their feelings for each other.”

“Or maybe I’ll just ‘accidentally’ let it slip…”

“Nino, no.”

“Nino, yes.”

“You know they’ll just ignore you, right? Those 2 wouldn’t know a hint if it hit them in the face.”

“True.”

I came up with an idea for a Miraculous Soulmate AU and it won’t leave my head

Part 2

-The red string of fate

-Appears when you meet your soulmate

-You don’t question it

-Nino and Marinette met in primary school and have been friends ever since

-They know they aren’t soulmates, but they still spend a lot of time together

-But as they grow older, their feelings grow as well…

-They decide to try being in a relationship. They agree that if it doesn’t work out, then they’ll stay friends

-They are in a relationship for the entire summer (about 2 months-ish) and while it isn’t perfect, it’s strong and relatively healthy.

-When the first day of school rolls around, they find out they’re in the same class. Yay!

-Along with Chloe. Less yay. (Chloe forces Marinette out of her seat, but then she just moves to the front with Nino)

-But then Stoneheart hits! (dun dun dun)

-Marinette sees the little box on her desk

-Say hello to Tikki!

-She transforms and yoyo’s out of her house…

-…running straight into a blonde cat hero

-They get all tangled up in her yoyo

-But then Ladybug realizes… her yoyo string isn’t red…

…which can only mean… this Cat Boy is her soulmate

-Cat Noir is surprised, yet happy

-Ladybug freaks the f**k out

-She has a boyfriend! She needs to talk to him about this!

-Cat Noir helps her calm down. She can talk to him after the Akuma is defeated.

-Stoneheart defeated, pound it, yada yada

-Marinette detransforms and resumes her freak out to Tikki

“Oh my god, I just found my soulmate and he’s my superhero partner who is wearing a mask and I have a boyfriend who I really need to call about this but what if he gets mad and what if he never talks to me again and wh-”

“Marinette! Calm down!”

*takes a deep breath* “Right. Sorry, Tikki, this is all very new to me.” Marinette twirls the magical red string around her finger. “Hey, Tikki?”

“Yes?”

“If Cat Noir is my soulmate, does that mean that I’ll know his identity?”

“Probably. If you ever end up meeting him outside of the suit, that is.”

-Marinette doesn’t call Nino

-She really really wants to, but she can’t explain the situation without revealing his identity to him

-She decides to wait until she meets Cat Noir outside the suit to talk to Nino

-It turns out, she doesn’t need to wait very long, because she sees a blonde guy hunched over her seat with a red string tied around his finger

“What are you doing here? And what are you doing to my seat?”

“Ah! I-I’m sorry, I was just trying to-”

“Put some gum on my seat? Wow. You know, this classroom already has Chloe in it, I don’t need to deal with another bully this year.” Marinette drops a napkin over the gum and curses her rotten luck.

Adrien desperately tries to explain himself.

“W-wait! I was just trying to-”

“Save it.” Marinette mutters coldly, sitting in her seat. She blinks away her tears. Figures her soulmate would be a bully, right when she was having high hopes about him, too.

-Adrien sighs and sits in the empty seat across from Marinette. First day of school and he already has an enemy. And that enemy also happens to be his soulmate.

-Alya taps on his shoulder.

“Hey, are you okay?”

“Well, it’s my first time in a real school and I already have an enemy.”

“Why didn’t you just try to tell her the truth? She seems… understanding enough.”

“I’ve known Chloe since I was a little kid. I know she’s rough around the edges, but it still feels wrong to throw her under the bus like that.”

“You didn’t have to throw Chloe under the bus. You just need to explain to that girl that you were trying to do the right thing.”

“I wasted my chance. She probably won’t ever talk to me again.”

“You won’t know until you try.”

-Nino talks to his girlfriend after class

“Hey. What’s wrong?”

“I-it’s nothing…”

“Mar, it’s clearly something. I know you. You don’t get this worked up over nothing.”

“It’s just…”

“Yes?…”

“I found my soulmate!”

“Wait, what?”

“I-I found my soulmate and it turns out that he’s that guy who tried to put gum in my seat and now I feel really conflicted because I’m with you but the universe wants me to be with him and I don’t want to be with him because he’s probably friends with Chloe and-”

“Woah, woah! Slow down! Take deep breaths… in… and out…”

“…okay.”

“Now, I want you to think about this. You found your soulmate and he seems like a bully, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Well, what if he wasn’t a bully?”

“What?! Nino, he-”

“Let me finish, M.”

“Fine.”

“He’s a sheltered kid in a new school. I doubt that he was trying to make any enemies on his first day. I think that if you just gave him a chance to explain himself, he would. The universe never lies, Marinette. If this guy really is your soulmate, I doubt he’s really a bad guy.”

Marinette is silent. Nino sighs and kisses her cheek.

“I have to go. I’ll text you later, okay?”

-Stoneheart hits again!

-Same fight, but it’s a little strained. Ladybug still cold towards Cat Noir.

-Purify, speech, miraculous ladybug

-No pound it this time (Cat Noir sad)

-Back at school, Marinette is still giving Adrien the cold shoulder.

-Adrien feels terrible and Marinette feels conflicted

-It is also raining outside

-How unfortunate.

“Hey” Adrien says casually. Marinette looks away, twirling the red string around her finger. Adrien sighs and opens his umbrella.

“I just wanted you to know that I was only trying to take the chewing gum off your seat. I’m sorry if I made you think otherwise.”

Marinette looks at him. “Really?”

Adrien nods. “Really. I’ve never been to school before. I’ve never had friends or a soulmate. It’s all sort of new to me.” Marinette finds herself smiling a little.

“Thank you. And if it makes any difference, I’m sorry to. I have a habit of jumping to conclusions and when I saw you hunched over my seat, I just sorta exploded.” Adrien smiles at her.

“Thank you. That means a lot.” Adrien felt a blush rising to his cheeks. Maybe having a soulmate wouldn’t be that bad…

“Yo, Mar, you forgot your bag.” Nino appears, holding Marinette’s backpack. He looks up at Adrien, then at Marinette. “Did you guys work everything out?” Marinette nods.

“Yep. We’re all good now.” Nino grins.

“That’s good. I’m glad everything is all cleared up.” Marinette nods and catches Adrien staring at them.

“Oh, Adrien! I’m sorry, this is my boyfriend, Nino!” Adrien feels the happiness inside him start to melt away.

“Oh.” He plasters on his model smile. “That’s great! I’m glad you two are… yeah. Oh! There’s my car! I have to go… I’ll see you guys tomorrow!” he rushes down the stairs before either Nino or Marinette can say anything.

“What was that about?” Marinette ponders. Nino raises an eyebrow.

“You don’t know?” Marinette shakes her head, confused.

“No, why? Was it something bad?”

“No.” Nino says quickly. “I’m sure it was nothing.”

Ladybug lay down on the roof next to Cat Noir, staring up at the stars. She could pick out all of the constellations that Tikki taught her.

“There’s Hippolyta, the Amazon queen. She was a Ladybug miraculous holder.” Ladybug murmured, pointing at a cluster of stars in the shape of a beautiful woman.

“Really? Do you think if she were alive today, she would give me free 2-day shipping?” Cat Noir chuckled. Ladybug snorted and poked him in the ear.

“You and your jokes. You would get along well with Simia. She was the Monkey miraculous holder in Roman times. Apparently, she was a bit of a prankster. She managed to trick an entire army of invaders to turn around simply by annoying them out of the country.” Cat Noir was in awe.

“Wow, who knew? History is full of surprises. Who else is up there?”

Ladybug was happy to oblige. She pointed out countless constellations of miraculous holders as Cat Noir listened, his chin in his hand.

There was Jeoul, a snake holder from Korea who used his second chance to pick out the best strategies in the Korean War.

Althuwr, an Egyptian Ox holder whose strength in battle seemed to rival a gods’.

Tyran, a Japanese Tiger holder who could sneak into any place, no matter how guarded.

And so many more…

Finally, Cat Noir asked, “What about the Black Cat holders? I would like to know how they dealt with Plagg and his cheese-loving nature. Maybe they can give me some pointers.” he joked. However, Ladybug’s smile slipped off of her face.

“The Black Cat miraculous was rarely used.” she murmured, her voice soft. “People were afraid of it and its destructive nature. I think…” she turned to her side to face her partner. “…I think that you’re the first hero to wield the Cat miraculous in over 3000 years.” Cat Noir shifted his gaze down at his feet.

“Oh.”

Suddenly, he felt Ladybug shift a little closer to him.

“But that doesn’t mean I’m not glad to have you as my partner. More than that, you’re my friend, Cat Noir, and I wouldn’t ask for anyone else by my side.”

Cat Noir felt his smile come back.

“Even with all of my terrible puns?”

“Even with all of your claw-ful puns.”

Ladybug: Rena Rouge? *drops phone and smashes it* Her phone and blog.

Rena Rouge: *sobbing* You’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this, haven’t you?!

Ladybug: *fixes phone* Carapace? Can’t act or lie to save his life. Also, severe hair envy with Cat Noir.

King Monkey: Ooh ooh! What about me? Do me next!

Ladybug: King Monkey? Over-competitive. Also, has an inabilty to unleash his full power due to his overwheling fear of hurting the people he cares about.

King Monkey: Some might say that’s a positive quality!

Ladybug: It’s not. Cat Noir? *squirts him with a squirt bottle*

*Cat Noir hisses and runs away*

Ladybug: Any questions?

Pegasus: *raises hand nervously* Just one… what’s your weakness?

Ladybug: Well, I’m not super easy to take do-

Cat Noir: *sneaks up behind her* Hey, Bugaboo.

Ladybug: *blushes furiously* I-I have a weak spot on my left ankle, and if you keep me on it for long enough, my injury will act up on me and I will eventually lose balance.

Rena Rouge: Huh, my friend Marinette has something similar to-

Ladybug: Moving on!
