When I fall in love

In 1959 Johnny Smith released a fantastic album called "Easy listening" on roost records (yes Cheesy cover). His haunting chordal playing is present in "When I fall in love" the Victor Young standard. His approach to playing chords and harmonizing was quite unique at that time. Don't hurt yourselves with the wide stretches :)

Darn that dream

Barry Galbraith, 1919 - 1983, remains one of the most admired jazz guitarists of all time. As a studio musician in the 1950's and 1960's he was in such high demand that he left us with one of the richest collections of jazz recordings on record, but at the same time one of the most limited, due to the fact that he most commonly appeared as sideman only.  Here's an arrangement of "Darn that dream" by Barry. Etude #1 from Jimmy Wyble

Jimmy Wyble , who recently passed away (R.I.P) was a master of the guitar. He had a unique style, kinda Bach meets Bill Evans. His ability to improvise complex contrapuntal parts in a jazz context was mind boggling. Fortunately he left us with many etudes and lessons. visit  www.jimmywyble.com great tribute page by David Oakes : http://www.davidoakesguitar.com/jimmyTribute.php Today we'll present his famous "Etude #1". It's a challenging piece rythmically, try to avoid barre chords, Jimmy was all for finger independance. Download Etude 1 (PDF) you can hear the piece here : Etude 1 Image

Ain't misbehavin (arr. by Ted Greene)

Here's a very nice arrangement of Ain't misbehavin from one of my favorite player  : Ted Greene. I'll feature a lot of Ted's work in this blog. The wonderful website at www.tedgreene.com   has plenty of material to work on but Ted's notation is not the easiest to read. Anyway here's my honest attempt to tab it, not perfect, still learning how to use powertab , enjoy ! Ain't misbehavin (PDF)
