On the Mac, Applications are stored in the Applications folder. The fastest way to locate this folder is to open the Finder and look for the Applications shortcut in the grey sidebar. The full path is Macintosh HD > Applications.

Hi Anne – The Mail App is part of the macOS, the operating system. If the problem can’t be resolved with a restart, you’ll need to go through a systematic process to try to resolve the problem. It’s too lengthy to describe in a post. I would call Apple Support, and have them walk you through it. All these things are fixable. – John

This is incorrect regarding the path of the Applications folder. The standard applications are not found at: Macintosh HD > Users > User Name > Applications.
That is the USER’s Applications folder, often empty.
You meant: Macintosh HD/Applications

When you download Chrome and install it, a window opens that shows the Chrome icon and an icon for the Applications folder. Drag the Chrome icon into the Application Folder icon. That’s all there is to it.

What Is The Best Or Fastest Way To Open An Application?
To Locate and Open Applications use:
Finder
The Finder is the smiley face icon on the bottom left-hand corner of the Dock. Double click the icon. If you don’t see a Finder window, go to the Menu Bar, click on File then choose New Finder Window. On the left-hand side, in the grey sidebar, you will see Applications. When you find the Application you are looking for remember to double-click to open it.
Dock
The Dock is the bar running along the bottom of the screen, showing icons for the Applications you use the most. If you see the Application you want to use, double click on the icon to open it. If the Application is not there, locate it in the Finder using the instructions above, then drag that Application onto the Dock.
Spotlight
This is the fastest way to locate and open an Application. The Spotlight icon is a magnifying glass and is located on the top right-hand of the menu bar. Click on this to open Spotlight. You can also use the shortcut Command + Spacebar to both open and close Spotlight. Once you open Spotlight a search box appears. Start typing the name of the Application you want to open. The moment it appears, hit Enter and the Application will open.
Launchpad
Launchpad is on the Dock. The icon is a silver circle with a black rocket inside. If the icon is not there, locate it in the Finder and Dock instructions above and drag it onto the Dock. Clicking on Launchpad brings up a display of Application icons that looks like the interface you’d see on an iPad or iPhone. Select any icon to open that Application.
