Where did the time go? Spend time with your kids now! Author: Mumsgather •10/09/2006 12:08:00 PM
Credit for rainbow image: FreeStockPhotos.comOne of the things you realise when you have children is the fact that they grow up so fast. They go through their development milestones one after another so quickly. And if you miss any of that, you're never going to get back that precious time or moment. We sometimes find it difficult to balance our work and personal time with family time and time spent with the children but less we forget, I'm posting the quote below to remind us. Time is precious. Time with the children is even more precious. So, we should try to spend our time bonding with them, playing with them and listening to them because.........“The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow but the rainbow won't wait while you do the work.” ~ Author UnknownHaving said that, I would like to add that work is important because it gives us a roof over our heads but we must be able to strike a balance so that it does not overtake our lives. Its not easy to strike that balance so we have to constantly remind ourselves. However, housework is unimportant. (Lol! Can you tell I'm a lazy housewife?). To me, housework is never ever more important then time with my kids. The dishes and dirty floor and linen can wait. "I prefer to have my house with an inch of dust and full of love than to have it spick and span with everyone in it feeling unhappy from the lack of attention." ~ Author MG from MumsgatherNote: I borrowed the title of this post from an article in the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) website. It has a very good article about spending time with your children. Here is an excerpt or paragraph I like...
"You won't want to find yourself looking back, amazed at how quickly it went, and realizing you missed something special. More important, spending time with your child gives you a chance to shape his values. As your child gets older, you can provide a good frame of reference as he is exposed to the growing influence of peers and popular culture. The more time you spend with your child, the more you will be able to help him tune in to his abilities, skill-building activities, and healthy friendships." Read the rest of the article here.

On , ducky said...i hate ppl that have kids then give it back to their parents to take care of them, while they continue to live their peaceful life without interruption as though they dont have any kids. for whatever reasons/excuses they can cough up its just plain bs.
On , Mumsgather said...ducky,I'm with you on this one. Some leave them with the grandparents out of necessity perhaps because they still have to work to make ends meet but its no excuse to leave them overnight, during the weekends etc and leave the total care of their kids to someone else. Like you say, even if you have to work, you still need to care for your own kids no matter what. Any other excuse is BS.
On , A Mature Student said...Aiyoh, when I was a baby, my mum left me with her sister-in-law for the week and I only came home during the weekends. My sister and brother went to my dad's mum and my youngest brother went to my mum's stepmum. I was the first to come home when my nanny came knocking on my parent's door for a job and stayed with us till I left home for Australia. I love my mum to bits.MG, like you, I refused to be a slave to my house until we are having guests. :)
On , A Mature Student said...Oopsy, sorry ah...tired and dreaming. How to delete my double comment? :))
On , Mumsgather said...Judy,Deleted liao. Yes, like you, when I have guests, I do a quick spring clean. Hahaha.
On , Anonymous said...i work in daycare and most parents treat thier kids as an inconvenience and thier career as the priority they send thier kids in with sickness bugs and raging temperatures and get pissed off when they hav to leave work to pick up thier ill child. i might not have much money but my kids get the care and attention every child deserves.
On , Mumsgather said...anon,Maybe some of them don't have a choice and they appear pissed off because they're actually really frustrated but of course there are those who are pissed off like you said.
