Buenos Aires Español, Argentina (somewhere in the planet Urban) las 2 se usan para pregnutar lo mismo, aunque where do you come from se puede usar también para preguntar de donde venís. Where do you come from--> de donde eres, o de donde vienes. Depende del cnotexto. Where are you from--> de donde eres S

english, US Well, in the States those are two questions that can be interpreted differently depending on your background. If someone asked me those two questions (my family has been here for 4 generations now) I would assume that "where do you come from" is asking me where my ancestors are from and what my ethnicity is. And if "where are you from" was asked, that would pertain more to what city I was from and or state. fsabroso

South Texas Perú / Castellano Hi, I think both questions are correct, but not the same. Example, Somebody can be born in Mexico, then he became a resident of ... Spain, and now he/she is in US. So: where are you? I am from Mexico. Where do you come from? I come from Spain. Regards! M

Massachusetts English, USA The only difference I notice is that "Where are you from?" implies slightly more your ethnic background, in that if you were born in the U.S. to Japanese parents, you might "be from" Japan. But really, these are very much the same question. --Michael You must log in or register to reply here. Share: Bluesky LinkedIn WhatsApp Email Share Link
