AMC's Into the Badlands takes placesomewhere in the United States several centuries after the collapse of civilization. A particular location is never named in the show, which makes sense, considering that the people who live in the show's post-apocalyptic world know very little about what came before them or what caused Into the Badlands' apocalypse. However, deeper details make it possible to nail down its exact location on the United States map.

Into the Badlands certainly created an interesting world for its characters to experience. The Seven Territories Cover A Portion Of The Midwestern United States

The maps of the seven territories that comprise the Badlands confirm that its world occupies a region stretching from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. The Badlands encompass parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Kansas, and Louisiana. This puts much of the show's events occurring in Oklahoma and Arkansas, since that's where the show's two most important territories - Butterfly and Armadillo - are located.

Into the Badlands was filmed in Louisiana during season 1, with Ireland being the primary shooting location for the second and third seasons.

Into the Badlands' setting widens over time. Expansion of certain territories on the Into the Badlands map over the course of the series led to a wider range of locations being shown on a consistent basis. And even those that don't get absorbed are ultimately featured regardless since the main characters in Into the Badlands travel all over the region. An example of this was in Into the Badlands season 2 when Sunny (Daniel Wu) and Bajie (Nick Frost) spent many episodes traveling through the Badlands to get back to the Armadillo Territory.

What Lies Beyond The Badlands?

The Outlands Are Also Featured In Into The Badlands

Despite the show's title, the Badlands themselves aren't the only relevant locations in the series. What exists beyond the borders of the Badlands eventually becomes integral to the plot, especially with all the discussion of the mythical city known as Azra. It, as well as other notable characters in the series, are associated with the Outlands, which are believed to encompass the western United States and possibly Mexico. Otherwise known as the Outlying Territories, these regions are subjects of great mystery in Into the Badlands, especially since they're largely unchartered.
