Lexington is one of the largest cities in the state of Kentucky, situated about 70 miles east of Louisville. It is the second-largest city in the state, the focus of the Bluegrass region, in central Kentucky. Blue Grass Airport, the main public airport of the city, is located in Fayette County, 6 miles west of the city center. Lexington has also direct access to Interstate 64 and Interstate 75. The city is known for its very high level of education. It is home to Transylvania University, The University of Kentucky (UK or UKY), and Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC). Lexington is known as "the city of horses", with a long history of horse breeding and plenty of events related to horses. The city is also a cultural center, with a few museums, concert halls, theaters, numerous annual festivals, and other events.
